The woman her children are the only people of color in the neighborhood.
Couple of assumptions, of course. First, that there was supposed to an "and" between "The woman" and "her children". Second, that since Ivarson is not "of color", he is white.
Sean Hannity is scheduled to interview Julian Assange on whether the guy is white or not and whether Obama and Clinton planted the banana peels in the neighbors driveway as reported in Pravda.
The word "white" typically isn't. The media has been doing this for years.. Where have you been? Had it been a black man however, you wouldve certainly seen it plastered in every sentence of the story
Ok, ok, I know this question has been posed for hundreds of years, but in 2017, when most of us have self segregated, mostly constructed our lives so that we don't need to interact (personally) with 'others' and have grown to be at least cordial with each other, why still hate? By cordial I mean, very few people are blatantly racist, the internet and other dark corners are usually where the racists (and all trolls for that matter) tend to find their strength. Granted, Trumps' win has empowered many more people than I can remember, most people still would like to avoid a punch to the face by calling someone a derogatory term. So I guess my question is deeper than blacks vs whites. But is their something in our genes, something inherent in us to dislike that which is different? You could make a very fair and valid argument that some black people dislike white people based on history, slavery, Jim Crown, Voter ID laws, gerrymandering of voting districts, forced segregation...the list goes on, but why do some white people inherently hate blacks, or muslims, or jews, or anyone else who is different?
And before the responses come, no I do not think all white people are racist, in fact I don't even think most white people are racist. My question isn't even so much about racism but about the nature of man. Maybe we aren't meant to fully coexist.
I also have this discussion with my girlfriend relating to men and infidelity, she really loves it (sarcasm) when I try to argue that evidence suggests Man, in his nature, is not meant to be monogamous. Not saying a man can't be, but that it isn't native to his being.
"Granted, Trumps' win has empowered many more people than I can remember, most people still would like to avoid a punch to the face by calling someone a derogatory term."
This was going on for about eighteen months. So, blame Trump...retroactively?
I would've slapped a Trumpland, MA tag on this thing so hard your head would spin if there were the least bit of evidence of that. Which I bet you realize.
It's amazing what sore winners Trump supporters are.
By your reasoning the competitive nature of people makes them racist, as opposed to learning and believing race-based ideas, generalizations and fears.
There are many folks who are type A competitive souls and who are not racist. Racism is discrimination and/or prejudice towards people based on race and/or ethnic group.
"Race" is an abstract concept. The nation state is a new concept, too. That said, I would be willing to bet that Usain roots for Jamaica in sports he does not compete in. Under the concept of the nation state, in sporting competitions one would necessarily root for your nation, which means to some extent you are opposed to other nations.
Same concept, really. Of course, if his main competition was a team sport (yes, I know he does the relays, but he is active when the races are going on) his nationalism would be more apparent.
It has more to do with "othering" people not like you, and making yourself feel all master-racy by making all their superficial attributes into bigly differences.
Can't he just be an attention whore? He seems to have authority and anger management issues too, but he's certainly found the knob that will get him the most attention and you all fell for it. He has mental health issues. Take his guns away and give him some marijuana.
He may very well be a sick man who needs help (the more I read about him the more he seems like the Brighton tree ninja), but he seems to be doing it because he really hates his neighbors, not to get attention. They don't deserve this, they deserve to live in their home without worrying about some increasingly violent individual (according to all the accounts, we've gone from banana peels to tire slashings) and the answer cannot just be medicating this guy. Assuming he did the things he's accused of, he needs to be removed from their presence. Let him get the help he needs someplace else.
But that doesn't make what he has done a simple matter of "just wanting attention".
Just like rape has very little to do with sex and everything to do with power, bullying has little to do with wanting attention. Power and control and assertion of superiority drive the bully. That's why assertions of default superiority (overt racism) appeal to bullies.
Note that his parents have had enough of him and are not going to be bailing him out because they can't deal with his behavior - and they should not have to deal with his behavior. Nor should his other victims.

Where does it say Ivarson is white?
Its not in the linked article as most often race isn't given in news articles.

You'd have to talk to the Lexington man to answer your question.
I think this is about him and not about you and your girlfriend.
Trump??

Read Scauma's comment
He definitely brought up the Donald.
But I suppose Trump can be scapegoated for every incident of racism. What's good for the goose and whatnot.
It's amazing
"..what sore winners Trump supporters are." Bigly. That shiv deserves a toast web master.
Humans
Humans, like most animals, are competitive. These competitive urges manifest themselves in various ways, some positive and some negative.
Is Usain Bolt the most racist man in the world?
By your reasoning the competitive nature of people makes them racist, as opposed to learning and believing race-based ideas, generalizations and fears.
Not at all
The parent commenter wondered why people are racist. The answer is that at very basic level it's misplace competition between perceived groups.
Running is a positive form of competition. Trying to force your neighbors out is a negative (and unacceptable) form.
No, it is not
Please do some research before you blather.
It is about essentialism - the "just so" stories that we tell ourselves about other people.
Not one bit of shit-all about competition.
Not sure why you think this way.
There are many folks who are type A competitive souls and who are not racist. Racism is discrimination and/or prejudice towards people based on race and/or ethnic group.

Short answer, tribal
Short answer, tribal mentality is still part of our DNA
What part of our DNA
Where is this part of our DNA - which chromosome?
