Even finding a Charlie Card. I have a visitor coming for several months and have asked every red shirt I see if they have one, I've looked on top of every pay machine I see, and cannot find one. I guess I'll have to go to the DTX T service center.

When my last one was on its way out and I was having trouble on the Silver Line, the driver handed me a new one and had a few on her. Even if you don't usually take busses, hopping on a random one for a stop could save you a trip to DTX (all the joys of the DMV, but buried underground).

Get one at North Station, South Station, or Back Bay ticket windows and load them up with however much you want.
It's easy!
Get a ten-dollar commuter rail Leisure Ticket for the weekend while you're at it.
DO IT!

They could have vendors sell the cards for $2.25 with $2.00 value on them to start, so the vendor can get $0.25 for selling the things. Last time I was in Dublin I bought a LEAP card (like a Charlie Card, but more like what Charlie Card 2.0 will be) at a convenience store. There was a charge of a Euro, but the discounts were worth it.

Better yet charge $2.50
and have a full fare on the card.
Why make someone with a new card go to a machine and load it up with a quarter dollar?
I got mine at 711
