Car flips in latest crash on the Arborway in Jamaica Plain

Arborway car flipped

A JP resident took this photo shortly after 5 p.m. on the northbound Arborway carriage road north of Forest Hills; reports it's the fourth crash in that stretch in the past three months.

So, roughly: Here.

Shut down the arborway and revert it back to park land. Enough is enough.

This wasn't on the Arborway proper, but rather the carriageway, which is the road on the other side of the Arborway from the Arboretum. Would you be willing to buy up all of the houses that line the side of the road and donate the land to the city? If so, go for it.

In this location, high-speed motorists on the Arborway "mainline" have repeatedly lost control of the car, crashed through the fence & median, rolled over & ended up on the residential lanes (also called "Arborway") shown in the photo.

Looks like the car flipped from the arbor way itself.

There are multiple stretches of mangled fence in this area... what you see on the right side of the pic wasn't even (originally) caused by this particular crash.

It's strange, since the Arborway is actually pretty straight in this section. But it keeps happening so it seems like "they" should "do something" but I honestly don't know what.

Right after I posted that, I took another look at the photo. Still, Kinopio’s dream of closing a major roadway is a bit far fetched. As for realistic solutions, there are things that trick the mind of drivers into slowing down. The next time I’m on that stretch of road, I’ll be thinking about it. It always seems that this happens going away from Forest Hills. More trees, maybe?

Shut it down? That's a little excessive, no?

Are we going to shut down the J-way, Storrow drive, etc? Maybe if ppl took driving a tad more seriously, pais more attn, stop texting, talking, reading, shaving, etc we would have less accidents.

Before the flamethrowers come out I am not saying that this was the case here....hopefully all are ok.

If the street needs better marking, signs, etc then the city should take care of that ASAP.

Is that it's not a city road. DCR manages the Parkways (except that they mostly don't).

The road was part of the original plans when the park was created. So there's no roadless park design to convert it back to.

Time to start live trapping spiny shells! Seems they keep finding their way onto the roadway.

What's the posted speed limit on the Arborway?

Extra credit: How many drivers have you ever seen driving that speed?

The speed limit is 30, and every time I see cars start off from one the red lights, they have been going the speed limit. Otherwise, well, I don't feel like going back into the archives, but probably a decade ago there was a debate on this website about what the speed limit should be, with some interesting arguments on both sides.

Conversely, I'm willing to bet this driver was going a little bit faster than the rest of the traffic. Not big money, but I think the bet would be a good one.

Agreed, except there isn't much other traffic on the carriage road. It's just for local access, since the main road is quicker.
