Boston Police officers were approaching a 2024 BMW SUV at the parking lot at the Forest Hills MBTA station when the driver tried to flee, running over an officer, who opened fire and hit the driver in the head.

Both were taken to local hospitals. The homicide unit was called in due to the severity of the suspect's injuries; the police department also started an investigation into the officer's use of his gun.

Police Commissioner Michael Cox said the struck officer fired the shot that hit the driver, WCVB reports.

Police had been notified a few minutes earlier that the SUV, owned by a rental-car company and being worked on at an Abington garage, had been stolen and had been located in the lot.

Two people also believed to be associated with the SUV were arrested.

Police shut the area around the station for their investigation.

So I witnessed the cop shooting the suspect as I was waiting for the 31 bus. Crazy scene to paint but there was a decent amount of people there to see everything as well. Everyone gasped(no one screamed oddly enough) when the gun shots went off and people began to flee the area(a lot people either watched from across the street or watched from the opposite end of the lower lot of Forest Hills). I walked as far as I could away from the scene because I didn’t understand what was happening at first and didn’t want to get hit by a stray bullet. I was fortunate enough to walk two stops away from Forest Hills and not get caught in the traffic nor the road blockage. I ended up catching a bus not a service that didn’t pass through forest hills or experience the blockage. Please be safe everyone and be aware of your surroundings. A

As of 10:00 PM the Police had blocked off Hyde Park Avenue up to Ukraine Way, all the lower busway and half of the upper busway. All buses were routed to the upper busway. I got to work late due to all the confusion.

Summer crime is really heating up now that the weather is getting cooling down.
