Jealous man's fists of fury get him banned from swanky Kenmore Square restaurant
A guy who followed a man who'd dated his ex into the men's room at Eastern Standard, burst into the stall the man was in and beat him up has been banned from the 528 Commonwealth Ave. restaurant, a manager told the Boston Licensing Board this morning.
According to police and the restaurant, the two men were part of a group of people sitting in the bar area near closing time when one got up to go up the stairs to the men's room, followed not long after by the other.
The first man was in a stall when the second entered. According to a third man, who was washing his hands at the time, the second man burst into the stall and began punching the first man repeatedly in the head. When he noticed the witness, he growled "get the fuck out!" which the witness did - and reported the incident to a restaurant worker.
When police arrived, they found the victim with swelling around his left eye and "a broken bathroom stall."
Restaurant attorney Dennis Quilty said nothing appeared amiss either in the bar or as the two men went up the stairs, one after the other. A manager said that the restaurant will no longer let the alleged attacker in.
The board decides Thursday whether the incident warrants any action.

They serve a good burger.
Jarring
As someone who fondly remembers the old Rat-era Kenmore Square, the phrase "swanky Kenmore Square restaurant" still sounds jarring. Where's the Pizza Pad when you need it?
Yeah ...
After a hard night of dancing at Lucifer, you just need some Deli Haus.
Did the Rat ...
even have doors on its stalls?
That would be...
..."stall," singular, and the answer is "no." And yet, it never seemed to be a problem....
Sounds like
Yes, "swanky Kenmore Square restaurant" sounds like "elegant Combat Zone nightclub".
May I introduce you to ...
Legal Crossing on Washington Street?
Back in the Day
I meant back in the day. It would have sounded funny then just as "swanky Kenmore Square Restaurant" might have sounded funny in 1979.
The board decides Thursday
Does the board want them to put bouncers in the bathrooms?
"A man who had dated his ex"
Jeez, go listen to "Party Up" by DMX, man.
Anger issues, possessiveness
Such wonderful traits ... no wonder he has an "ex". Good for the Ex for leaving this dimwit.
And the Licensing Board seriously expects
that the bar could and should have done something to prevent this? What planet are they on?
The question we all should ask
What is the legal system doing about a violent possessive stalker who attacked a man for no reason?
What if...
What if he was over-served?
Its just one possibility that would fall on the bar's responsibility.
