Trump-loving California congressman also loves the Celtics

McClatchy reports US Rep. Devin Nunes of California used political donations to buy some $15,000 worth of Celtics tickets last year.

Nunes, R-Calif., has reportedly been a Celtics fan since high school, though he grew up in Tulare, California. He used the money from his political action committee last year on three occasions to buy tickets.

Hate to break it to you but a lot of politicians use PAC money to buy groups of tickets to host donors and obtain more money at sporting events.

Charities too.

It's a big business of churning donations into more donations with box seats instead of boring dinners or silent auctions.

Why is he buying Celtics tickets when he represents the CA-22? Here's a Wikipedia link to that district: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California's_22nd_congressional_district (edit: copy/paste that entire link because something odd about UHub doens't link the entirety of the text in the URL).

As a long time season ticket holder, I can tell you I've never seen Traitor Nunes at the Garden. However if I do see him I will treat him with all the respect he deserves.

Lindsey Graham once referred to Nunes as "Inspector Closseau" because Nunes was such a disaster on the House investigation into Russian electoral interference. So Nunes is dumb and corrupt. No wonder he gets along well with Trump.

...and it ain't rainbow. I'll make two assumptions here...one is that Roman is male and the other is that anon meant his comment as an insult. So, it's an anti gay slur. The only difference between anon's subtle (well, not too much) insult and calling Roman a faggot is merely a matter of degree.
AG, if I've crossed a line to make this point, feel free to comment. I can change the post a bit, clean it up so as to not offend the easily triggered, but I think it has a bit more impact in the original.

Didn't realize UHub was such a hotbed of anti-gay feels.
Please, correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm happy to accept CA tax payers money.

Seriously? He should, by all rights either be a Laker's fan (CA default) or if he was an outlier, an old-time Chris Mullin Golden State Warriors fan. This by itself, indicates what a creep he is. He probably picked them because they were the winningest team. So shallow, such a reflection of what he is.

Because EVERY SINGLE PERSON who grew up in MA is/was a Celtics fan. If not, there's something wrong with you (or you grew up with a parent/relative who was a fan of another team)

If he was just looking for the winningest team, he'd stay in California (the Warriors have been dominant in recent years) or even the Western Conference (the Texas teams have been the class of the league for a long time.) Ironically, if being on the band wagon was his thought, the Lakers would have been a horrible choice. It was a losing team based on Kobe Bryant, then he retired.

I might not like Nunes, but I have no problem with him rooting for the Celtics.

From "The Hill"

Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) used political donations to pay for almost $15,000 in tickets for Boston Celtics games, winery tours and trips to Las Vegas, according to a McClatchy article published Thursday.

Nunes, who is chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, used money from his PAC to purchase Celtics tickets three times last year, according to McClatchy's analysis of reports from the Federal Election Commission and two watchdog groups.

  • It's NOT taxpayer funds
  • The $15K paid for winery tours and trips to Las Vegas, in addition to Celtics games
  • It's TOTALLY legal

That's politics. That's reality.
Get a grip.

Considering the lack of diversity and demographics (think new hampshire and south shore towns) of boston sportsball fans this makes perfect sense.
