As Maine goes, so goes Massachusetts?

The state Attorney General's office said today that backers of a measure to let voters rank their preferences in statewide and congressional races can try to get it on the 2020 election - by collecting a little more than 80,000 signatures on petitions by early December.

The measure, similar to a rule now used in Maine, would let voters in races with three or more candidates mark off the candidates in their order of preference - if their main choice didn't get a majority, their votes would then go to their second-choice candidate. The process would then continue until a candidate receives the majority of votes.

The proposal would not extend to presidential or municipal elections, although Cambridge has used this basic system for its local elections for decades.

Remember when Massachusetts voters enacted term limits? How'd that work out?

Yeah, I don't either.

Ranked choice voting is a good thing. Don't piss on an idea just because you lack the attention span to understand it.

I consider pissing on a good idea to be the height of rudeness. Is your life that miserable?

Agreed. Where can I sign this petition?

A friend of mine designed a web site that allows you to set up elections for anything from where to go for dinner, to who should be the president of your organization. It was my first exposure to ranked choice voting and it really makes a lot of sense.
