Man struck and killed by outbound Worcester train in Newton

Transit Police report a man in his 20s was hit and killed by an outbound train to Worcester near the Newtonville stop around 5:15 p.m. Police are investigating what he was doing on the tracks, but say foul play is not suspected.

The investigation into the incident has meant long delays on the line.

Shortly before 7 p.m., Woofytexan reported:

The train is still stopped on the tracks between Walnut and Harvard on Washington. Crime scene tape is up at entrances and Walnut and Harvard streets are blocked by police.

RIP for the poor person who was struck by the train. I feel bad for the train crews and passengers who deal with these tragic events. The MBTA owns the right of way and has to do something about the homeless camps, teen drinking parties, ATV's and trespassers who use the right of way. Didn't the MBTA commission a study and hire consultants a couple of years ago to study these issues and come up with solutions ?
