MFA shuts for at least a month
By adamg on Thu, 03/12/2020 - 3:49pm
The Museum of Fine Arts just announced when it closes its doors this evening, it won't re-open them for at least another 30 days. You know why.
While the Museum is closed during this period and all events are cancelled or postponed, the MFA’s salaried, hourly, temporary, and union employees will continue to be paid for their regularly scheduled hours. Museum security and climate systems will be fully maintained throughout the closure, ensuring the safety of all works of art in the building. The safety of our visitors, members, staff, and volunteers are our top priority, and we will continue to monitor new developments closely.

many other local museums all closing at the end of today
So far I've seen emailed or reported announcements from the MFA, Gardner Museum, ICA, Harvard museums (both art and natural history), Museum of Science, New England Aquarium, and Children's Museum. This appears to be a coordinated simultaneous response by all of the institutions.
(will edit to add links as I find them)
Curious timing
The MFA just sent an email late this morning about the cancellation of the Nowruz celebration and upcoming Late Nights events, but specified that "At this time, the MFA remains open to all". The decision close altogether must have been under discussion by then?
I got that
And one yesterday from the ICA saying they cancelled some events but were open. That was a quick change
MOS too. At least 3 weeks,
MOS too. At least 3 weeks, they say.
Peabody Essex Museum closed, too
