Newton Mayor Ruthanne Fuller announced this afternoon that a 55-year-old Needham man was charged with operating to endanger and failure to use care when starting a motor vehicle for an incident on Tuesday in which, after shouting at Black Lives Matter demonstrators at City Hall, he got in his pickup and accelerated away, narrowly missing several of the teens.

The video shows kids surrounding his vehicle, arms flailing and shouting. What a waste of time.
So what?

He picked a fight with the group while leaving when he could have said nothing and there was another exit with no protesters that he chose not to use.
The protesters felt threatened and they were trying to communicate to the driver not to hurt them.

Dude brandished a gun at another dude who wasn't wearing a mask and got his permit and gun taken away immediately.
Which is the right thing to happen.
So ... does this guy still have a drivers' license and access to a vehicle?
After all, the Supreme Court has ruled repeatedly that there is no right to drive. At least bearing arms is in the bill of rights.
sometimes comparisons don't work

Different laws. Guns vs cars.
Different regulatory situation. RMV is probably reviewing the truck guy's license soon. Police chief has authority over gun guy.
Different police dept.
Different DA? (I honestly don't know who's in which county)
Sometimes situations are just different. Debates over how one is worse than the other are fun barstool conversations, but lousy legal logic.
Meanwhile, they're both older dudes who should know better. As another barstool debate, I wonder if they will blame the other parties/victims, or contritely accept responsibility for their actions when their grandkids ask why they're in the newspaper.
Not guilty!!!

Why is he still free to drive around in a deadly weapon?
He went out of his way to drive through them

He got into his truck which was facing the Comm Ave exit of the circular driveway and kept going around instead of leaving an unblocked open exit.

If you're a person of color, police and media will post your name, address, DOB, eye color, mother's maiden name, favorite food, and pet's dental charts. If you're white you're "55-year-old Needham man".

I thought Needham had been getting a bit more open and accepting lately. But I guess it's easier to put up pride flags and BLM signs on your lawn than to actually stretch your mind beyond bedroom community privilege. E.g. Charlie Baker.
Why won't they name him?

It's a matter of public record. No media outlet is naming him, either. I'm always curious why this happens. Lawsuits?

he’s actually a part of society and we wouldn’t want the mob to get any ideas

Who are summonsed in for misdemeanors, they aren’t going to name this guy. It is public record and anyone can just put in an FOI and get the report and his name will be there.
