A big part of the problem.

But given the decades-long defunding of schools, I can see how you might think that way.

BPSs budget has increased YoY. This issue is the BTU is like a shark tasting blood. They gobble up every new dollar allocated.

Don’t get me started on the fact they over employee people because they refuse to lay-off union members which aren’t needed. The student body has shrunk (charter schools) but their employee level remains they same.

You have some magic power to read into commenters inner thoughts? My comment was the police on overtime for crowd control for a protest asking to defund them ..said thank you., what does shakedowns and school budgets have to do with my comment?
I don't live in cambridge and know nothing about their defunding schools so I wouldn't comment on it.
Sometimes a comment is what it is.

But tons of street details protecting manholes.

You can get an explanation if you really want one (hint, no city money is involved).

Whether the money for police details flows through City Hall or through National Grid, Comcast, BWSC, etc, it still begins from the same taxpayer wallets.

It's not always the evil utility company who pays. Sometimes it's YOU, when it's your tree that needs trimming, or your wedding that has alcohol, live music, and a certain number of guests.

Overtime is ok if they are working.
Paid details are a scam created by the union and approved by politicians, there is nothing more annoying than seeing a cop on a detail watching people work .

All money defunded from the police department(s) should be retuned to the taxpayers.

So my question to everybody is what is the definition and what is the difference between defunding and relocation?

My position is you do not defund any law enforcement agency, unless that department was found to be ineffective and was problematic.

I truly believe in reallocation of funds, it is more appropriate.

Defunding is really threatening and it sounds stupid.
