Board rejects plans for West Roxbury bank after applicant fails to show up for hearing

The Zoning Board of Appeal today rejected without prejudice a proposal to replace the BP station at the corner of Centre Street and Belgrade Avenue with a bank because the lot's owner didn't show up at the hearing.

The vote means the owner can reapply for approval to beef up West Roxbury's bank census should it find a hearing date it could actually make.

Hopefully a better proposal to install the city's largest nail salon will take root there.

With the incredible lack of parking in WR maybe a parking lot?

Actually has a serious lack of parking. So much so, BPD asked businesses to post signage about double parking which is a huge problem.

It has a problem with people who insist they have to park right outside the taco place, rather than, horrors, a block away by the Apartment Building with Those Kids Statues that Some People Really Hate for Some Reason.

Buddy, if you don't think the souls of real children are trapped in those statues, open your eyes.

So true, even out here in the boonies. I continuously read about people here complaining about the lack of parking or how some change will take away two prized parking spots. Meanwhile, there really is plenty of parking, though you might have to walk 100 yards.

But everybody knows they can double-park directly in front of their destination instead of walking half a block because the city won't ticket or tow them.

If that's what it took to get the road diet on Centre Street, it'd be worth it.

I think they should take out 3 lanes of Center Street and replace them with the area’s biggest Blue Bikes station. The last lane can be for people to figure out how to double park in.

I was hoping for a multi use space. A hybrid bank/ funeral home. The community desperately needs these services.

I recommend the "Take it with you when you go" account. They will bury both you and your money in the public parking spot in front of your home or business and also will erect a headstone on it that both "preserves the neighborhood character" and prevents anyone else from parking in "your" spot in perpetuity.
