Boston Medical Center cancels vaccine appointments of people who signed up through system they were accidentally given access to
Boston Medical Center says that on Friday, it inadvertently shared contact info for a new Covid-19 vaccination signup system that wasn't supposed to be made available to the general public - so it began sending out somewhat mysterious cancellation texts to people who had signed up for appointments today or in coming days.
BMC said the new system was only supposed to be used by participants in a new program in which hospital volunteers go into "communities in Boston who have suffered disproportionate rates of COVID-19" and to help people there get sign up for shots.
The hospital said it honored appointments for people who booked shots Friday night for Saturday, but that it canceled appointments scheduled after that, via text messages that provided the URL for the Massachusetts appointment Web site. "We apologize for the inconvenience," the hospital says.

Meanwhile, some good news
45% of adults in Massachusetts have gotten at least their first vaccine shot. The death rate is falling quickly. Hospitalizations are not increasing.
New cases are still too high but they're mostly among young people and the number of new cases is at least reaching a plateau. Most people at high risk have been vaccinated. The vaccines work surprisingly well, even against the variants.
We're not out of the woods yet but things are finally starting to look up. By May 1st anyone who wants a shot should be easily able to do so.
BMC should own their mistake
BMC should own their mistake and keep all booked appointments. THEY made the mistake and people who got the appointments likely stopped looking & possibly even canceled other appointments because of this. It's also unlikely they'll be able to re-book with the people BMC wants to use the appointments for in time. Boston & the state should severely reprimand and probably reduce future vaccine to BMC for this.
Whatever
They should put hospital staff in vans to go to high risk areas and just offer shots to anyone on the street, ice cream truck style. (Particularly if it's J&J.)
If they didn't cancel the appointments, people would be angry saying BMC was stealing doses intended for high risk communities and giving them to well connected people.
Well, no
My expectations would be met if they did that.
Guess what?
That is actually happening. They already had a van for vaccinating children at childcare locations and libraries and other convenient locations.
They are using it to reach underserved and high risk areas.
Wait
Which Covid vaccines are approved for children?
Really?
Does the FDA know BMC was administering vaccines to children for whom the EUA is not applicable?
Obviously, it is meant that
Obviously, it is meant that they vaccinate children with all usual and approved childhood vaccines.
You seem to want to take
You seem to want to take punitive action against the city's only safety net hospital for correcting what appears to be a mistake they corrected as quickly as they could. What if they didn't have the doses for these appointments that were being mistakenly made? Then how would they have kept the appointments?
Logic much?
Yeah, that'll make things so much better.
Do you have magic vaccine boobs?
You know, the ones that ooze moderna and pfizer and J&J on demand?
No? I don't either.
The reality is that this meant double booking and there is not enough vaccine available to honor those appointments. What they should do is rebook them first available and put in a request to me and my buds to get them all the leftovers they need to cover the shots.
You responded
To a commenter named Sean, so, unless it's Sean Young, they probably don't have boobs at all. Also, "magic vaccine dick" would have been 10 times funnier anyway.
Rare swing and a miss, Swirly.
Gyncomastia
Is a thing.
Boobs aren't primary sex characteristics - they are secondary ones. Males can grow a pair.
And if the Reverend Aiden can ooze tit glitter ...
TBF
I'll credit you for the first recorded use of "males can grow a pair" that wasn't about balls.
That...
...is an exceptionally stupid and pointless response. All too common swing and a miss, Will.
You forgot
"I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."
LOL
“Here’s your medicine. Just kidding.”
What a clown industry.
Every time you flaunt your ignorance...
My god this is a cringeworthy comment.
Ignorance?
I mean it's a frickin' opinion, not a misstated or erroneous fact.
Yep
Yep. What exactly are you calling an "industry"? Covid vaccine rollout? It's not an "industry", Will.
No
But hospitals are. Centers of fraud and waste that don't get nearly the scorn they deserve from government and from news media.

And...
And Wendy's is better than McDonald's, and that opinion is just as relevant to the topic under discussion as your ax-grinding over hospitals.
I'm switching to decaf.
I'm switching to decaf.
I get my second Moderna today
I keep thinking this is like "Day of the Triffids" (even though that was blinding meteors) and the vaccine will poison everyone and in a couple of months we'll all begin to drop dead at once.
Not because it's a plot, just because of incompetence.
(No I'm not anti-vax, this one's just been a kluge job from the get-go)
My real fear
Reading some of the things I have seen, my fear is that just as they get, say, 70% of the country vaccinated, the power of the vaccine will recede, putting us back to square one.
So then
...we get boosters.
And if we get vaccinated, as fast as we can, we will reduce the opportunity for new strains to develop.
It's not a one-and-done thing.
I suspect we'll be getting them every year.
Like flu shots.
New strains will come from
New strains will come from the rest of the world anyway.
But less rapidly
But less rapidly if we develop herd immunity to the current strains. It buys us time. That is the entire point.
That said
Four and a half month in to this vaccination drive, how many Americans have been vaccinated.
Again, are we going to be finished with the first round of shots before the second round begins? That's the fear.
I got my first Pfizer on Saturday
The process was painless. I was able to book an appointment on the CVS website a day after I became eligible. I didn't use any tricks, just checked the website when I got up around 5:30am.
When I arrived CVS was efficient and I was injected 10 minutes before my scheduled appointment time since no one was waiting. The person doing the injection was competent and friendly. I sit around looking at my phone for 15 minutes and left. My arm was sore for the next day or so.
I'm sure some people have had bad experiences but everyone's I know has had no complaints. At most it takes waking up early to book a spot.
