Citizen complaint of the day: The plush side of Dorchester

A downtrodden citizen in gritty Roslindale or lowly Hyde Park files a 311 complaint about how some parts of the city just get more attention:

Why is it that anything that any reports that get resolved are in Southie or plush side of Dorchester and other rich areas and once anyone outside of those areas reports it gets ignored. Roslindale/Hyde Park you could have 2 cars parked on a street blocking the whole thing for a week and you would do nothing. Somebody drops a chewing gun wrapper in a rich neighborhood and you guys send someone instantly.. I've been auditing 311 for months now and I have the records to prove what I say

I live in what might be regarded by the dear 311 reporter from Roslindale/Hyde Park as the plush side of Dirty Dot, if measured by real estate values. A property on my street recently sold for over a million dollars. Now that's plush!

However there have been murders, drug busts, street robberies, cars vandalized, federal agent raids with flash bombs, and filthy dirty streets and sidewalks all within a stones throw in the last 5 years. That's not plush.

And I can assure the dear 311 reporter that 311 does not respond consistently to reports in my area either. It's hit or miss, and entirely unreliable.

For the record, I pick up chewing gum wrappers in my yard and on the sidewalk myself, without the assistance of 311. I also pick up used condoms, fast food trash, and much more myself. But I'll say that 311 does respond quickly to pick up requests for needles.

Why we even have Charmin in the port-a-potties at Tenean Beach.

Might refer to the Melville Park area, which can feel like walking around parts of Newton.

It's a bit obvious this person thinks that any 311 call from South Boston is somehow handled as a priority vs. elsewhere. It's not even remotely accurate.
There is quite a bit of frustration and disapproval with the system. It has it's good points, e.g., missed trash pick ups, potholes, carelessly discarded syringes, etc. But when it comes to the issue of parking and the different problems, like non residents in resident spots, people here are not entirely satisfied with how they are dealt with.
You can also take some time on any given weekend day or night and read the calls to 311 about the loud party's, traffic backed up on W & E Broadway with ride shares, out of town drivers taking up resident parking spaces, on and on.
Nobody has a monopoly on dissatisfaction.
Welcome to the city.

I sincerely hope that the 311 reporter has stacks and stacks of data to show the seriousness of their voluntary oversight.

Put in a 311 complaint about the two cars. Then, a month later, put in a complaint noting the report number of the first report, asking why nothing has been done about the cars. A month later, put in another complaint and e-mail Arroyo's office at the same time noting that you've been complaining for all that time and got nothing.

I don't like the guy's characterization of other parts of the city, but down in my neck of Roslindale, we had what appeared to be an abandoned car on the block for over 3 months. I even gave it a month before complaining in case it wasn't abandoned. Checking some of the complaints in the system, someone else was also sending in complaints. The issue may be with BTD being slow in responding. Some agencies are good. Others, not so much.

The Dorchester/Mattapan border?

Mattapan is just a part of Dorchester.

So, we are thinking the Mattapan/Hyde Park border, to be anatomically correct.
