Fraudy in the Morning
By adamg on Thu, 05/20/2021 - 9:05am
Yes, of course he was back on the air this morning. And what did he learn from yesterday's faux-quit? "I am not going to pretend I'm a 26-year-old girl," he said.

what an insufferable child
What a insufferable child he is.
I'll stick to switching between WBZ Radio and WBUR. I'd rather grow brain cells while listening than lose them.
wers
the only station that still plays good new music
Sure
As long as you want to hear inoffensive adult alternative from the 90s or acapella music.
For the most new music
The ghosts of WFNX at:
Indie617
WUMB
“Folk Radio”- but they play a range of genres, including contemporary, traditional and classic folk, world (especially on Sundays), rock and blues. They had a live in-studio series pre-lockdown, and have been playing archival performances. Knowledgeable, non-obnoxious DJs.
Naw
I'm not a fan of WERS's commercial-DJ-in-training format. They have a few good shows but mostly it's the same crap as the other pop stations.
WMBR (88.1), WHRB (95.3), and WZBC (90.3) are where it's at if you want to hear new, old, and uncommon music by DJs who are really interested in the music and not being paid to make frat boy jokes.
The classical programming on WHRB is about 1000x better than WCRB too.
Excellent!
You said what I wanted to say. WZBC feels like a real college station. True alternative music. And it's fun when one of the DJs discovers and loves a song that's been around for decades.
WERS is so disappointing as a "college" station.
For fun sometimes I listen to WJIB 103.1 which is pop music from the 40s to the 80s. Quite the mix!
The only thing that would make WZBC better ...
Would be if they'd install one of those thingmabobs that texts out the names of the artists and songs as they play them, but that would probably take money and expertise to install, I guess.
Nah
It's not a thingamabob; it's included as metadata in pretty much all mp3s. I have all my music on my phone, which is Bluetooth-synced to my car stereo, and the stereo displays artist, title, and album. It even shows me pictures, which sometimes actually are the artist. If your radio station of choice isn't sending out the metadata, that's their choice.
RDS system
No, there is hardware they would need to install if Adam is talking about an RDS system that allows one to see this info on a car radio via FM.
It's not the same as how the data gets passed via bluetooth from your phone.
Q: Is that what a digital radio station is?
Or, am I way off base? Just curious.
No
RDS and digital radio (aka "HD Radio") are not the same although they both can provide metadata like the time and song name.
Most car radios are RDS ready but digital radio never really caught on and few cars I've been in have a tuner that supports it.
Many stations decided it's not worth the money to get the transmission hardware needed since so few people have a tuner. (And few people want a tuner if there isn't much programming.)
+ 1 for WJIB
+ 1 for WJIB
I do however also like WERS
WJIB forever!
In my house it's WMBR, WBUR, and the JIB. We have to make sure any new radio we get has AM, for some reason the Jib's FM frequency doesn't come in well for us.
WERS does have some good shows. I'll cop to 94.5 once in a while too, too check in on what the kids are listening to these days haha.
I'm old
I like Magic 106.7 and Mix 104.1 for music.
Its rare I do, if I am in a car without bluetooth or an input in... its usually not for long, so WBUR and WBZ it is.
HEY!

So
He only demi-quit?
Lesson learned?
I hope his bosses, whom he respects very much as people but not professionals, have learned that by not allowing a petulant man-child to act out his bigotry on their broadcast and thus storming away from the only job he has will generate untold amounts of free publicity through unscripted drama, the upcoming confessional and probably a locally televised interview slash post-mortem that focuses on Matt Siegel, who no doubt is the real victim here.
Hopefully I can go another twenty years without knowing another thing about this terrestrial radio contrivance that used to be quite the thing during the later parts of the 20th century, so the people in radio tell me.
He'll be Emcee-ing
Andleman Family weddings for decades to come.
Welp, just reprogrammed that button in my car
I purposely never listened to him in the morning because of his transphobic, homophobic, bigoted views, but did listen in the afternoon after I needed non-news to keep me from road-raging. But the fact that they allowed him back on air? Nope. Guess I'm going to wear out my Bosstones CDs some more.
I guess you don't have to
I guess you don't have to listen to it if you think it's dumb or not funny or offensive. I have never heard of the guy.
Isn't he doing what Demi Lovato and her PR person want anyway? Stirring the celebrity pot? It's all one big predatory bog and he's a little minnow nibbling the sea-lice of the bigger predators.
Edit: should have said ‘they’ as DL’s pronoun, whomever they are.
Great insight. Thanks for
Great insight. Thanks for posting.
telling on yourself lmao
Their PR person, you mean.
Oh. Unless you're as fragile-minded as Matty boy here, maybe try reading the article again.
Bless your heart.
Isn't he doing what Demi
check out Demi Lovato’s story from childhood, i think you’ll get the sense that they weren’t after any free pub.
What is that even supposed to mean?
Most 26 year old women I know contribute more to society and exhibit vastly more maturity than this washed up waste product.
Who knew that a vast lack of self control and endless verbal diarrhea could be a career?
The joke
Is that according to the ratings, he's popular.
Says a lot more about Boston's radio listeners then the blowhard himself.
So's...
So's Charlie Baker.
If you've ever talked to people from another part of the country who have said, "Wow, your governor is so popular, you must really love him!", you understand the difference between "most popular" and "a lot of people really like him".
i thought he was doubling down
the “joke” being that he can’t be someone he’s not, and neither can Demi Lovato.
What exactly is he?
"grown ass adult human being" is apparently beyond his reach.
Ratings
How many actual people do the ratings translate to? How many people still listen to radio? I only use it to try and hear the ball game. If I want music, I listen to my music, not some corporate playlist.
Sadly...
...too many with those "attributes" discover they can get paid for being an ass.
How are you measuring societal contribution?
Just curious... because it sounds like you know him well, including what he does and has done outside of his radio show.
Deeds speak more loudly than words
And Matty is entirely words, few of them contributing to society in any sense.
In the minority here
wasn't much of a Kiss108 /pop music guy, but I enjoyed him the few times I would listen on a morning commute. Seemed like just a normal guy that was kind of sarcastic. Not sure why most on this site hate him. Maybe because he was successful? Common trend here.
Sarcastic?
That's a bit above his pay grade.
Racism, sexism, homophobia are not sarcasm and only funny to those whose self worth is all about birth privilege.
Curious
We've obviously seen an example of him being "transphobic," but I don't recall any examples of him being racist, sexist, or homophobic (other than the transphobic thing, which is kind of distinct.) I'm not a listener to that end of the dial, but care to show proof for your accusations?
Straight white man
Wants "proof" of something he never seems to notice for some reason...
Then will inevitably say "but I don't think that's racist/sexist/homophobic" ... in response to any and all responses.
Because straight white guys get to decide these things. Sure. Lather, rinse, repeat
I can't think of a time that I've heard this jackass run his mouth that sexist doesn't enter the fray. And I only listen to him when there is no alternative (like a waiting room and I forgot my headphones).
Oh, and look, I found a family portrait for you (based on your usual "just asking questions routine" ...)
So, in short
You just made that up, to make you feel better.
I'm not saying that he isn't what you claim he is, but shy proof, I won't say he is.
I mean, I can say that you are anti-Catholic, since you have written as much here, but as a straight white woman, can I just conclude that you are a racist homophobe even though you have never made a comment that is racist or homophobic because, well, straight white woman?
Wait -
You thought she was talking about Siegel with that "straight white man wants proof" stuff? I do not think she was ...
so interesting how “being in the minority”
invariably confers a sense of rightness to people whose written words demonstrate a lack of information regarding the topic they’ve chosen to offer their opinion on.
Really...
Who is still listening to radio?
Well, I am
Is radio not cool/trendy/hip enough for you? Nobody ever accused me of being cool.
I listen to NPR and a few others. I'll also cue up a podcast for a longer ride.
I am willing to bet a
I am willing to bet a majority of commenters on here are NPR listeners.
Is it a crime now?
Is it a crime now?
Me!
There are some programs that I really love, like Con Salsa and WRSI's Funky Fridays. And, while both of these are streamed as well as broadcast, I still consider them "radio".
(and I love listening to baseball on the radio...comfort food for the ears)
Bring back WILD!!
Bring back WILD!!
Been humorous the last couple
Been humorous the last couple days to see the high dudgeon here about a guy no one claims to remember on an obsolete medium no one listens to anymore- very reminiscent of Yogi Berra's classic "Nobody goes there anymore- its too crowded"
The headline is dripping with
The headline is dripping with envy. Matty gets more listeners in one day than this joke of a website gets clicks in a year.
And yet ...
Here you are.
I suppose I could be envious of Matty if I ever paid any attention to him, but the fact is, I don't, and was only spurred into action on this story yesterday when I started getting e-mail asking if I'd heard he'd quit (well, "quit").
Feel free to tune in there for your news instead then
No reason for you to stick around here if Matty's show is so much better!
What a ridiculous, unserious person you are.
If journalists stopped covering everyone more famous than them out of fear of being accused of envy, there would be not many more than zero news stories published.
It's a common butt-hurt reaction when someone you obviously adore gets criticized in the media: "Oooh, you're just jealous." Try Occam's Razor next time: public figures usually slagged in the press because they've done something awful.
Matt Siegel berated one of
Matt Siegel berated one of his cohosts on the air this morning about not posting the episode he exploded like a child in to the podcast. When she said it wasn't her choice and it was above her paygrade he snapped at her and accused her of not even calling him. When she went to prove she did try to call him he snapped again and cut her mic.
Even if the rest of his shit is ok with you, how do you justify his behavior? From the rage quitting to attacking his co-workers on the air. It's sad and pathetic for someone who has been in the business this long.
