DA: Police quickly found Roxbury stabbing suspect because he was wearing a court-ordered GPS

A Mattapan man in Roxbury who was loudly threatening a Rockville Park resident stabbed two neighbors who tried to break things up, leaving one of them to die of a stab wound to the chest, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office says.

Raymond Vega-Castro, 42, was ordered held in lieu of bail at his arraignment today on charges he murdered Ronald Reed, 33, and tried to do the same to Reed's neighbor around 8:10 p.m. on Wednesday, according to the DA's office. Vega-Castro stabbed the surviving victim several times in the chest, but he is expected to survive.

Prosecutors told the court that Vega-Castro assaulted the victims’ neighbor, leading the surviving victim to become involved in an altercation with Vega-Castro. Reed intervened on the surviving victim’s behalf and was stabbed by Castro, prosecutors said.

Officers determined Vega-Castro’s location using the coordinates of the GPS monitor that he had been ordered to wear following his release on bail in a 2021 case out of the Dorchester Division of Boston Municipal Court charging breaking and entering in the nighttime. He was placed under arrest following a motor vehicle stop.
