Family of demolition worker killed in Government Center Garage collapse sues subcontractor, developer

The family of Peter Monsini, 51, working to help demolish the ninth level of the Government Center Garage when it collapsed, sending him to his death on March 26, today sued both a subscontractor on the project and developer HYM for negligence.

In the suit, filed in Suffolk Superior Court, the family charges that John Moriarty & Associates, which hired the demolition company Monsini worked for, failed to adequately survey the decaying structure to make sure it was still safe to work in or to take steps to keep things such as floors collapsing under workers from happening.

Monsini should never have been sent out on such an unstable "walking-working surface" and that he "suffered consciously" until he died in the rubble down on the ground, the suit alleges.

The suit charges that HYM, which is having what's left of the garage removed for its large Bulfinch Crossing project, shares in that blame.
