Not a good way to start the day: Orange Line is dead Jackson to Back Bay

Wu and O'Malley on a bus

Among those affected: The mayor and a former city councilor.

Some sort of "power problem" on the Orange Line means the T is rolling out shuttle buses to replace the Orange Line between Jackson Square and Back Bay. But, the T helpfully advises, you can also jump on the 39 (and then, if you're feeling especially kicky, you can jump off the 39 and get on the E Line).

Among those affected: Mayor Wu, who posted a selfie of herself and another attempted Orange Line rider: Former City Councilor Matt O'Malley, who lives in West Roxbury.

Wu later added that when she and her bus mates got to Back Bay, T workers made them pay again to get back on the T.

I applaud the mayor for riding and advocating for public transportation. I hope she has a team of undercover Boston Police officers riding with her to protect her from the nutcases who are harassing her and her family.

Lives in WR. Not that it really matters.

Fixed. He used to live in JP. Guess I need to track the real-estate transactions more closely!

The registry of deeds site is a great resource.

I love that she does this, but I'm concerned for her well being. Especially after someone threatened her kids.

She's had a number of threats and anti vaxxers have been pretty vile toward her lately. I'd be afraid I'd have someone accost her while on her way to work.

Whether we want to admit it or not, people are crazy. I'd rather have Michelle get to work in one piece.

Yes Michelle is a big girl and can take care of herself, but it only takes one time...

She’s not riding the train alone. I’m pretty sure she has a full State Trooper escort.

But I'd guess there's a BPD person on the train or, today, the bus, with her.

I'm actually not concerned that much about the protestors ambushing her on the T. First, they'd have to figure out which train or bus she was on, or linger at Forest Hills until they saw her. But more to the point, the Venn diagram of people protesting outside her house and people who would never be caught dead on public transit with those people looks like a O.

Especially after someone threatened her kids.

What threat? From this weekend's article, people were standing on the sidewalk in front of Wu's house to protest vaccine mandates/passports, and a fool did this:

They’ve shouted on megaphones that my kids will grow up without a mom bc I’ll be in prison.

and now that one snippet is being described as hate, ethnic cleansing, and death threats against her kids. There's definitely an anti-Wu crowd demonstrating awful behavior, but at the same time there are elements of the anti-anti-Wu crowd being melodramatic.

The threat being growing up without their mother.

My son freaks out sometimes about things. When he was a bit younger than Wu's youngest is, he for some reason freaked out at the idea that I would be dead in a year (spoiler- I'm still alive.) Telling a kid that doesn't know any better that their mom will be in prison soon is a threat.

I don't really listen to what these morons say when they are at Wu's house, even though I can hear them from my property. All I know is that they are morons, and that has nothing to do with their actual cause.

Anyone who's ever had to wait for the super crowded 39 Bus knows there's no such thing as "jumping" on it as it is already waiting there for you like a nice dream.

Shortly after becoming mayor, Marty Walsh tried to sneak out of his house to go for a walk. No luck, they spotted him and followed along in a cruiser.

Dukakis always had state police with him when he took the Green Line to the State House. I would not be surprised if there is an MBTA officer or two as well who tag along when Wu rides the train.

At least once Dukakis was riding the rails alone; the train I was on was just starting to pull out of the Brookline Village station when it stopped to let someone on. Since this was wildly unusual (I once had a driver slam the doors shut on my face because I wasn't moving fast enough on my crutches and a cast on my leg...), I looked up to see who merited such service. It was the Governor, and he was alone.

That said. Yes, I hope Mayor Wu has someone looking out for her given the hysterical vitriol directed towards her by the anti-vax crowd.

Magoo is going to throw in Magoo’s hat to be special Magoo Protection Envoy to the Mayor. Magoo’s catch phrase will be: “nwaa there’s new sheriff in town, seeee, Magoo’s the name, seeee. And you best stay away from the Mayor, seeee or How’d yoo like to wear a pair of concrete flippers and go for a swim, seee. Magoo.

Mayor Michelle finally gets to experience MBTA Shuttle Route 629?!?!

At least she is not being chauffeured around like Chuck The Governor...

This isn't just a stunt - She's been riding the Orange Line for years.

I don't think he was giving grief at the mayor, only noting that she probably hasn't been on that particular bus route before.

The mom who photobombed the selfie, on the other hand, is awesome. I'll vote for her.
