The Boston Fire Department reports firefighters responded to 314 Warren St. in Roxbury around 4:20 a.m. for what turned into a two-alarm fire on the coldest night of the season.

The department reports firefighters rescued several residents, who were transported by Boston EMS to local hospitals for observation.

After the fire was knocked down, firefighters were hampered in removing their gear from the scene due to the 10-degree temperatures - the department reports they had to deal with "frozen hand lines and ground ladders in frozen bunker gear."

Absolutely the worst night both because of the holiday (presents/dinner) and the temperature outside (below freezing) for something like this to happen.
