A Boston health inspector shut Crown Fried Chicken, 344 Warren St., this week for "gross unsanitary conditions" that included food soils and grease all over the kitchen, some of it "heavily encrusted" on cooking equipment, no soap or paper towels for workers to wash their hands with and rat droppings behind barrels used for collecting grease. A Boston health inspector yesterday ordered China Bo, 49 Warren St., shut for a variety of violations that included uncooked spring rolls being kept too warm, raw beef being stored in a sink meant only for hand washing, dirty utensils, including knives, rice cookers and cutting boards, rat droppings and at least one live cockroach. The Boston Licensing Board yesterday approved a liquor license for District 7 Tavern, which Royal C. Smith wants to open at 380 Warren St., the former home of Sonny Walker's, which closed in April.

The board granted him a "neighborhood" license for the 824-square-foot space, which means he would have to give the license back to the city rather than re-sell it should he go out of business.

A Westwood developer has filed plans for a six-story, 41-unit apartment building on Warren Street where it meets St. James Street in Dudley Square - across from Warren from where another developer has proposed a 21-apartment building. Read more.

Developer Michael McGough of Dorchester has filed plans with the BPDA to replace a vacant lot on Warren Street at Winthrop Street in Dudley Square with a five-story, 21-studio apartment building - with ground-floor space for a restaurant or shop. Read more.

The Boston Department of Neighborhood Development and the BPDA are readying bid requests for several vacant lots and one parking lot in Dudley Square in the hopes of seeing more housing and commercial space built in the neighborhood. Read more.

Developer John Cruz recently filed formal plans with the BPDA for a 95-apartment complex on Warren Street at Waverly Street in Roxbury.

The Dr. Michael E. Haynes Arms - named after the Roxbury state representative and minister - would also become home to Cruz's 45-employee firm, now headquartered in John Eliot Square. Read more.

A teen from Dorchester was ordered held in lieu of $10,000 bail after allegedly flipping the stolen SUV she was driving on Warren Street at Townsend yesterday, sending another teen to the hospital with critical injuries, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports. Read more.
