The WCVB story says the 20-inch water main dates back to 1872.

that the pipe was rehabbed in the 70's, that's still around 50 years ago.

As a historic landmark. Just think of all the famous South End residents who have gotten their water from that water main for the past century-and-a-half!

Seems more like a car-nibbling sinkhole. That Subaru never went all the way in like it would have with the sarlacc.

The bigger news is who is still charging that much for gas

Seem to be in a high-price gas bubble.

Just like gas in Manhattan / 5 boroughs, always more expensive in the city. Nearby residents will pay for it, and people lack an alternative other than driving deeper into Rox or Dorchester. And no gas stations off 93 or Pike for many miles.

Used to live right by this gas station, prices were almost always $1-1.50 more than anywhere else in the area.

1872! Think of the stories that pipe could tell. If it was a sewage pipe think of all the turds from famous people that must have flowed through there:

Babe Ruth’s Turd as it’s floating along: “The Bambino sure did hit another one out of the park when he slung me out the ‘back door’ this morning after his first cigar and beer, wheeeeeeeeee!”

Madam Socialite’s turd in response while holding a tissue up to her turd nose: “My dear turd, you are so repulsive I dare say. Stay away, stay away”

Babe Ruth’s Turd: “ Hey lady, if’n ya didn’t notice, yoo’s a turd jus like me!”
