Thomas Ruffen, run over in the middle of the street in Jackson Square, was active in improving life at Mildred Hailey Apartments and across Boston
People who worked with Thomas Ruffen are sadly remembering his life, following his death early Thursday, for which an allegedly impatient, uncaring Hyde Park man has been charged with murder.
The Greater Boston Interfaith Organization recalls Ruffen:
Thomas Ruffen, may he rest in peace, played a critical role in GBIO organizing the residents of Mildred C. Hailey that led to the victory of $50 million to address deferred maintenance. Thomas had a servant’s heart as one member described him; we agree and will miss him dearly.
Mayor Wu announced that $50 million in funding at Mildred Hailey in January.
Williams set up his own non-profit group, Massachusetts Creating Community Power Association, to help get people involved in creating "an anti-racist community through demonstration, education, and conversation."
Josh McFadden remembers him:
Thomas was such an amazing person inside and out. Dedicated his life to helping others. He will definitely be missed! Rest in power my brother.
Wendy Tanahashi added:
What an amazing man, I am honored to have known him thru GBIO. He was a man of faith and lived his faith by helping others improve their circumstances and supported their voices.

Stop taking the lives of
Stop taking the lives of people who do good because you are miserable. Name one good thing that you gain from it. Oh yeah it's easy to find God in a cage. Why don't you try befriending just one advocate who gives you what you are hungry for in a positive way before wanting to go out and shoot someone because you are a walking ball of anger snd hate toward others who are trying to do better.
He wasn’t shot though
He wasn’t shot though
No, but effectively the same
The driver saw this man, stopped his car, considered his options, and decided to purposefully drive his car over him.
It's no different from someone who aims a gun at a person and pulls the trigger.
Or just stop taking lives,
period.
Profoundly sad
He was a thoughtful and caring leader in the community, and this loss is profoundly sad. He will be greatly missed.
