Bay Village graffiti taggers caught red handed, police say

Boston Police report three men spotted spray-painting the building at 131 Arlington St. proved unable to outrace responding officers, even the one who tried to lighten his load by tossing aside cans of spray paint as he ran early Tuesday.

A foot pursuit ensued, and the suspect refused officers commands to stop. Officers were able to place the suspect into handcuffs, and recovered a paint marker and a “jumbo correction pen” often used for tagging. Officers also discovered multiple paint cans from the suspects flight path.

Officers were able to review cameras in the area, and located two other suspects. Officers could smell fresh paint emanating from their clothing as well as fresh paint on one of the suspect’s fingers and shorts. Both suspects were taken into custody without incident.

William Sears, 28, of Allston, Kyle Coyne, 32, of Hyde Park, and Iain Wright, 25, of Medford, were arrested on tagging charges, police say.

Innocent, etc.

It's supposed to be kids stuff though @Greene. You know that rebelling against the "Establishment" limiting your artistic license phase we all went through as kids. Granted in my day it was usually limited to toilet stalls but I suppose times change. These people were definitely not kids.

That was from November, 2020, but if that's the right building, it's a pretty high-visibility canvas.

This seems like such a rare arrest case and I am grateful for it.

I wonder if they are the same morons who routinely target the same areas of Dorchester (Four Corners, Bowdoin-Geneva, Fields Corner, Codman Square). I have a particular loathing for the guy who regularly tags the word "Poet" all over the place. He's been doing it for at least 8 years. He defaces anything that he comes across, including the façade of low income housing, historic buildings etc. He's recently expended his vocabulary to spell "GFV" -the two words have been showing up at the same time with the same paint.

I hope these 3 dudes get sentenced to more than a dozen hour of community service. Is there a way to follow up on what happens to them in court?
