Boston University swatted with call about 'active shooter'

Boston Police responded in force to 855 Commonwealth Avenue around 7:50 p.m. on a report of a shooter. BU then sent an alert, which prompted students seeing or hearing anything suspicious to call 911.

Around 8:10 p.m., police cleared 855 Commonwealth Ave., after finding nothing suspicious - a couple minute after clearing 725 Commonwealth Ave. Just in case, though, Boston, State, Brookline and BU Police maintained a heavy presence in the Kenmore/BU area.

What’s the plan for when, God forbid, we have one of these situations happen in Boston for real? Does the BPD have a storm the fortress type approach like the cops in Nashville or will they stand outside like Ulvade ?

I was on the 57 bus Sunday evening(having just flown back from Tampa) and saw the preponderance of police vehicles just west of the BU bridge. I thought there had been an accident, but it looks like another in a series of hoaxes.

Back when I was in college (50 years ago), my friends at BU told me that (for a considerable period of time) they had bomb hoaxes -- in both dorms and classrooms -- on pretty much a daily basis.
