I assume the link for "6 alarm fire" is supposed to go someplace other than this article?

The fire at Faith Lutheran Church on Broadway near Prospect Street appears to now be contained. Companies from Arlington, Belmont, Boston, Brookline, Chelsea, Medford, Newton, Somerville, Waltham, Watertown and possibly more assisted Cambridge firefighters. Thank you to all.

This is right down the street from me.

awful and on Easter :(

I have my own thoughts on religion and church. But I recognize that going to church provides a sense of community and personal empowerment. There's a lot of people out there who do not have that in their life, and going to church gives them that. And that's a good thing.

Its what they do with that empowerment is the issue. (read: doing good vs promoting hate & intolerance)

So It makes me sad to think there are people who now have lost their community and empowerment now. But the congregation will survive, and because of that community and empowerment, they will rebuild. (I am almost certain they will)

I hope they setup a GoFundMe or something, I'd like to give a few bucks.

I don't think they have a GoFundMe yet, but they do have a giving page on their website: https://faithcambridge.org/giving/.

I'm not part of this congregation but am familiar with them. They are definitely a community-connected group, from the pastor to the congregants to the folks who use the space; giving and genuinely welcoming to anyone.

I'm all about vibe. I was watching the Pastor (?) speak with local news last night. He just had a nice.. vibe about him, which concurs your statement above. Just nice people.

They even have a 'building fund' as an option. Nice of them to break up how/where your donation goes.

And done & donated.

They team up with other faith groups to feed a lot of people. That alone is worth funding.

I'm just glad that service was over and everyone was out of the building when this happened. Given the earlier crowds it could have been horrible.

Friends of ours are members of this church and we have attended several family events with him as the celebrant. He's just as kind as you'd think he is. Just devastating.

If you look at the pictures on their site, it looks like it was a beautiful building. The wooden ceiling was amazing and I'm sure irreplaceable.
