Roslindale restaurant proposes neighborhood's first bottle service

Guira & Tambora, 4014 Washington St., is seeking permission to let customers have a dedicated bottle of alcohol at their table as they dine.

The Dominican restaurant goes before the Boston Licensing Board on Wednesday to make its case. If they win approval, it would be the first restaurant in Roslindale to offer the service.

Bottle service in Boston is more limited than in other cities: Tables do not simply get a bottle or bottles that diners can then pour themselves. Instead, patrons can schedule a server to stand at the table with a bottle and related items, such as various fruits, to dole out measured drinks.

The board's hearings start at 10 a.m. Guira & Tambora is fifth on the agenda.

I've been to dinners with Russian friends where toasting with cold vodka throughout the meal is a regular tradition. Fun if you have the stomach for it.

I've experienced partial-bottle service in Denmark. They bring out a bottle of iced Aquavit. You drink what you like. When you're done, they take it back and refill the bottle from a graduated container that measures how much it takes to refill the bottle, and charge you for that amount.

I asked a waiter, "What's to stop patrons from cheating by pouring water into the bottle when the waiter's not looking?" and he responded "The same thing that stops me from doing that in the kitchen. Cheating isn't really a very Danish thing."

If you've got 8 people at your table, a 750 ml bottle is 2 standard shots apiece.

This place gets very loud within their fenced patio area having the beer served in plastic cups and I wonder how much of an effect can bottles of corona and Heineken might bring to the dining experience. Will be interesting to hear the support.

I've never eaten there and while it has no effect on me personally, how do the neighbors in the general vicinity feel about it?
