This is great news! If Raven has to go, I'm glad it is being replaced with Rodney's. I loved their Central Square store. I used to find so many things in there, and not just books. Hats, super rare CDs (in the days of CDs), old music magazines from the 1970s, unique postcards and birthday cards. You just never knew what you'd find in there.
I still mourn for Wordsworth. Ended so many college dates with a visit there to browse the aisles (not worth dating anyone who didn't consider that part of a perfect evening).
I loved popping in to Rodney's, mostly to look for dance books, and every time I did I would find something perfect. I hope the deal goes through and I hope they will cram the new space full of narrow shelves.
The Raven space always felt too open and exposed for a used bookstore, to me.
Happy about this but still miss Rodney's in Central ! Depressing that the store was replaced by a bank.
What was the name of the hole in the wall bookstore across the street from Raven and right next to the Harvard cinema? They used to have a delightful selection of odds and ends in there. I remember purchasing a rather sleek looking pocket knife there as well as a miniature castle that was perfect for displaying Dungeon and Dragon characters. (Gave that one away as a Christmas present to an avid D&D player and he loved it!)
You'd go into any of the bookstores and pick up a map of all the others. There were at least 25. The boundaries of "Harvard Square" were stretched generously towards Porter and Central squares for this purpose.

Rodney's is back??
This almost makes up for Raven closing (in the best of all possible Harvard Squares, we'd have both of them. And Wordsworth back too.).
Still miss Wordsworth

Yes
You find out a lot about someone when you browse through a bookstore with them.
WordsWorth was the conclusion of my first date with my wife.
Seconded
I bought a lot of books from there and at a nice 10% discount too.
