GBH's Jim and Margery show, which normally broadcasts from the new wing of the Copley library, reported this morning it's shifted to the main GBH studios in Brighton because of the library's ongoing AC problems, which started last week.

No one sees you sweat on radio

If they stayed in the studio, it would be good, honest radio to hear oscillating fans in the background while the hosts mutter, "It's so darn hot," between segments regarding Boston's tax revenue woes and deferred maintenance of public buildings.
Anyone can contact WBZ or WCVB?

ating them on Twitter/X has no effect, but this needs to be covered by the mainstream media. They bneed to turn the AC back on, but they're pulling an MBTA here...

It isn't that they don't want to turn on the A/C, but they can't because of a construction job going on in the building.
Couldn't they just go to the home of whoever's watching it?

Cities with functional public

Cities with functional public libraries are dime a dozen but how many can boast a mayor with a Papal audience?
Oh?

Care to list other US cities with as large and comprehensive of a library as Boston that don't occasionally have a maintenance problem that requires them to close a branch for a day? FYI: BPL has 24 branches, not just the one.
BPL is the 3rd largest library system in the US based on holdings. Impressive considering the population served is far smaller than most other metro library systems.

There's a certain public library system about 250 miles away that has some decent collections.

BPL Conspiracy Theory

Do any of you remember a few years back when the previous BPL President was forced to resign after some valuable prints went missing only to turn up right after her resignation speech about a yard away from where they were supposed to be? Perhaps someone wants the current BPL Prez out. The longer the HVAC at the Central Library is off, the more pissed off library patrons, UHub commenters, and local salty boomer public radio hosts you get. One can only imagine the pressure on poor Mr. Leonard when people start cancelling their 60k weddings.
Does the library have any

Does the library have any books about how to fix the AC?
Ready For The Bad News?

When Billy Bulger and Tom Menino got their hands on the library, it worked. It was upgraded and modernized. The library had a great support system from the Cullinanes and others.
It got upgraded again under Walsh to its current layout. Neighborhood libraries got upgraded as well and I miss the slate floor at Adams Street.
Someone has been in office for nearly 2.75 years and goes to the library each week for Jim and Margery pom poming so softball that it would make Shirley from Milton be embarrassed.
Perhaps rather than just making the God Bless Harvard people feel better about themselves that you actually have people look into the nuts and bolts of the city's infrastructure?
After 2.75 years in office, it is time to start taking responsibility for the existing buildings and grounds of the city and not act like you are in a lifetime sinecure and you will get around to things.
The facade of the library has the word munificence on it. Perhaps rather that waving and cheering, be an urban mechanic and not a "dreamer".

She Has People
By John Costello

She has people who understand HVAC systems.
She has a police and fire department who do things quite well.
She has DPW people who cannot seem to keep crosswalks painted.
She has a school department with people with whom she just caved in more than Vulcan did in the second Chris Pine Star Trek movie.
She is at the top of the pyramid. She should be able to see out the window of her car (as long it isn't crashing into someone who had the right of way) that some things are work and some things aren't.
It is on her to possibly check in with those people and get an indication of what is going on rather than trying to make rich people more money by giving away Franklin Park.
If the people under her cannot get the job done, get new people.

I never understood the point of building a studio in a library
By necturus

Howie Carr's show originates from a studio in Needham, but for half the year he broadcasts from Florida. Most of his listeners would never know it.
Similarly, Jim and Margery could be broadcasting from the far side of the moon, but their audience won't know the difference.
Of course, if the library were paying WGBH to broadcast from there for the purpose of driving traffic to the library, that would be different, but I've a feeling that's not what's going on here.
Kind of cool

I am always happy when I walk in and find a show in progress in the library studio. I think it is cool to see radio at work. I think it is a bit of a gimmick, but one I like.

They broadcast the shows live from the library on youtube. And they announce that they're broadcasting from the library, every time they're broadcasting from the library. And it's free to the public to come watch/listen/engage.

"Hey we have to shut the HVAC off for that project".
"Let's shut it down in June instead of late October when there is less need for full HVAC coverage".
"Sure thing!"
Congratulations!
