Even with GPS, out-of-town drivers sometimes have trouble with Boston roads - and so do out-of-town pilots with Logan taxiways
By adamg on Sun, 10/20/2024 - 7:19pm
Aviation for Aviators reports the pilots of a British Airways Airbus A380 - one of the world's largest jets - got lost on the way to Terminal E after landing at Logan on Friday and wound up stuck for nearly an hour on a taxiway that was supposed to be closed for construction. Massport had to bring in a "pushback tug" to haul the jumbo jet to the right taxiway so that it could then, well, taxi, to the terminal.

Accidentally crossed runway 22R!?
Yikes! Accidentally crossed runway 22R!?
Look on the bright side.
At least they avoided Storrow.
Not happening
They weren't going to make it through any of the tunnels.
Yeah, not with all the closures.
Really inconvenient.
"45 minutes later" on a phone call?
"Your call is very important to us, but all of our airport service representatives are busy assisting other planes. Your call will be answered in the order it was received. Please hold and a representative will be with you shortly."
( hold music: Steve Miller Band, "Big Old Jet Airliner" )
Ahem! Please keep references local
hold music: Paul Pena, "Big Old Jet Airliner"
Never heard the original before
Thank you for introducing me to Paul Pena's original!
Well. Someone else has heard of the original!
I knew Miller's was a cover, as I am an Insufferable Music Geek, but I felt I had to go with what everyone else knew - he's the one who had the hit with it :-)
If this runway were a Boston street closed for …
… construction, there would have been a cop on detail sitting inside their personal vehicle scrolling their phone while the jumbo jet rolled on by.
Turboprop reverse taxi FTW
I only once directed a turboprop aircraft to taxi in reverse, during a detachment to Scotland where the parking was tight. Just needed to remember to stand outboard at the wingtip to avoid getting blown away.
