Man charged as roving perv in Brookline and nearby parts of Boston

A man charged with exposing himself in Brookline and Boston after getting out of his pickup with Oregon plates has been ordered to undergo observation to see if he is competent to stand trial.

Brookline Police report arresting Darryl Breen, 68, on Sunday, three weeks after they had first put out a public request for help finding him.

Police say Breen's gray Dodge Ram pick-up truck with Oregon plates proved to be his undoing: On Sunday, a Brookline officer spotted the truck and pulled it over:

The Officer conducted a traffic stop and the operator produced identification that was later determined to be a false identification. The false identification notwithstanding, the officer developed probable cause that the operator was in fact the suspect wanted in connection with two separate open & gross incidents that occurred in Brookline.

Police also found that Breen was driving around with a stun gun and a BB gun - and was wanted on an arrest warrant out of Florida.

Breen was arraigned the next day in Brookline District Court on two counts of open and gross lewdness - one in Brookline, one in Boston - illegal possession of a stun gun, providing false ID to a police officer and being a fugitive from justice, court records show. Police say:

Information gathered determined that BREEN was likely active in the area of Brookline, Allston, and Back Bay area of Boston, and we believe that there are other victims of similar incidents within the last several weeks that may have or may not have been reported to law enforcement.

Judge Debra Shopteese ordered Breen sent to a Norfolk County lockup without bail and to undergo observation to determine his competency to stand trial, court records show, adding she set an Aug. 7 hearing date to review his case.
