Man gets six to eight years for beating woman, then carving her face with a razor blade in a Charlestown apartment

A Suffolk Superior Court judge today sentenced Ismail Mohamed, 40, to six to eight years in state prison and three years of probation for the way he beat a woman until her face swelled up, then used a razor blade to slice her face, he claimed, to reduce the swelling, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

A Suffolk Superior Court jury found Mohamed guilty last week on charges of kidnapping, assault and battery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and indecent assault and battery on a person over 14, the DA's office says.

According to the DA's office, Boston officers responded to a call for an assault in the basement apartment at 87 Cambridge St. in Charlestown around 5:50 a.m. on May 22 of last year;

Officers located Mohamed, sitting on a bed while the female victim was sitting on the floor, bleeding from her face. A large amount of blood was visible on a blanket and pillow also found on the floor. The victim appeared disoriented and unable to open her eyes. Officers observed severe bruising and swelling around both eyes, mouth and cheeks and multiple cuts above and beneath her eyelids. She was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Mohamed told police he was with the victim in the apartment when a fight ensued. He then fell asleep and when he woke up, discovered the victim to be suffering from the injuries. He then admitted to cutting the victim’s face to help reduce the swelling around her eyes.
