Venerable Irish pub in Fields Corner set to be sold, remade

Boston Restaurant Talk reports the Boston Licensing Board next week considers a request by the owner of the Blarney Stone, 1505 Dorchester Ave., to sell the place and its liquor license to Yancarlo Fernandez of Dorchester, who plans to open a new place there called Acapella's.

The board's hearings begin at 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

Michael Conlon and partners opened the Blarney Stone in 1965 - after winning approval for a liquor license from the licensing board, whose members at the time included Dapper O'Neill. Conlon won exclusive rights to pour and distribute Guinness stout in the US, making the Blarney Stone the first American pub to sell the Irish brew.

Conlon had emigrated from Swinford, County Mayo in 1949. He died in 2011.

Sorry to see the Blarney Stone close, but it's great that the license isn't ending up in the Seaport. I wish all parties the best.

Is this the same Fernandez who is practically cornering the Liquor/Grocery store market in the inner city ie Fernandez Cousins stores?

those stores have been the victims of a lot of robberies and shoplifting, including mob grab-n-run invasions.

They have stuck it out and invested in the neighborhood and it would be nice if they diversified and built more wealth.
