A whale of a time in Boston Harbor

Mark Garfinkle has been chronicling the breaching exploits of Shambhu, the juvenile humpback, who has been enjoying the outer harbor, between Deer Island and Castle Island, the past few days.

I couldn't find the whale tweets and gave up. I'd really like to see them.

Took me a few seconds. What business do governments and government funded orgs have being on X, Facebook, whatever those other icons represent (Snapchat?) or Tick Tock when they cause and exacerbate incalculable harm to… just about everybody? Our laissez-faire program with regards to nurturing putative cum established big tech gave us (well US firms) dominance (save for Ticktock) and is the upside sufficient relative to the downside? Didn’t Zuckerburg misappropriate Harvard infrastructure to bootstrap his stalking product?

You may be right, but Mark works for NBC Boston, which is not a government organization.

That’s a private firm. Though, that makes me think, should journalistic outlets, private, or otherwise be in any sort of relationship, let alone an absolutely essential, wholly dependent, and corrupting relationship with social media? No offense intended to Mark of NBC Boston; this is all bigger than any one individual’s scope.

One could argue (as done up above) that maybe responsible journalists should stay away from ex-Twitter because it's owned by a transphobic fascist, but social media in general? You go where your audience is, and increasingly these days, the audience is on social media.

Right, Musk is wayward and goes astray from conservatism, * and traffics in hate and coercion, yeah, he’s a right fascist immature bastard.

I don’t doubt he’s smart, but his vision doesn’t exceed that of any average science buff. Where he excels is in ruthlessness, business acumen, (station of birth) self-promotion, perhaps theft and government largesse in the form of intelligence and intelligence-adjacent labours. (I like that form of the word.)

Yeah, you go where the audience is, resistance is futile. (But, it’s not.)

* (I’d say Libertarianism, but there’s no such thing. One can only aspire to that, because once a degenerate state is realized they’d come full circle to crave what they once loathed.)

...why not an NBC link? Or have they completely outsourced to Xitter?

I do hate that frequently it seems like Xitter is the best way to find out up to date information about what's going on with the T. That's pretty much the only reason I ever go on without someone else linking to it (Like Adam)
