Boston waking up? Board to consider cereal-infused desserts until 3 a.m. in Brighton, and Whoppers around the clock in East Boston
The Boston Licensing Board next week considers requests by restaurant owners at opposite ends of the city to open into the wee hours.
In Brighton's Oak Square, the owner of the currently closed Day and Night Cereal Bar, 6 Tremont St., hopes to re-open with a new name of Sweet & Comfy - and with new hours that would keep the cereal crunching until 3 a.m.
Across the harbor, in East Boston's Orient Heights, meanwhile, the owner of the Burger King at 944 Bennington St. wants to ditch its current 2 a.m. closing time and keep flinging the burgers and fries 24 hours a day. The hearing notice does not specify if the fast-food place wants to open for eat-in service 24 hours a day or if it would only be open in the earliest of early morning hours for delivery pickup.

Be careful singing that around Eastie
No longer have to go to Allston...

Locally, some detractors of the dessert place are upset about the 3am time due to…noise? Parking? Delivery drivers? I’m not really sure. The business is surrounded by other businesses so what residences would customers realistically be bothering. They just don’t think anything needs to be open that late. I say let the business give it a try, if they don’t get enough traffic then they can close earlier.

Will gyms be open 24x7
To offset this new infusion of body lard?
There is a 24-hour gym
In Boston's 24-hour neighborhood: Roslindale.
It's on Washington Street, right across from the 24-hour Dunk's and just down the street from the 24-hour Best of Boston gas station (no, not making a comment about the quality of its gas - that's its name).
welp
Now we know what part of town doesn't nap..
I'm pretty sure that BK has a drive-thru
So I'd imagine the dining room would close when it does now but the drive-thru would stay open 24 hours.
Yeah
Yeah it does.
I think they want to mirror what 24 hour McD's do. Close the dining room at 10 or 11 and just be all drive thru orders until morning.
Interestingly enough Google Maps info about that store says the drive thru is the same hours as the dining room, which is currently until 2am on weekends. But this could be an error on google (which is frequent).
Regardless, not sure I'd want a dining room open after 10 or 11, especially on weekends. Outside of the business benefits (i.e. no need for counter staff, cleaning the dining and rest rooms, etc) but I'd be concerned about groups of teens or unruly people late at night. It just can turn into a safety thing if you're already a slim staff overnight.
Full Disclosure: I worked at a 24 Dunkin after high school overnight and Krispy Kreme in Meffa when it opened overnight as a team lead. Sometimes we'd just get packs of people.. teens, drunk people, etc.. sure they buy stuff but they are loud, obnoxious, and make a mess most of the time. Not worth the crew to keep the dining room open overnight.
Wellington Circle
The 24-hour Dunks at Wellington Circle is under 24 hour police protection. Staties across the street, cops from multiple towns doing paperwork at all hours. Nobody makes any trouble!
Krispy
Uh Swirls I worked at the Krispy in Meffa which is also in Wellington Circle.
Yeah the MSP are there but it was like they weren't.. they never came in. We had to hire a meffa cop at times to help with unruly people.
That isn't right at the circle
You can get in and out of the dunks easily from any direction. Where the Kelly's is? Not so much. You have to drive a mile before you can turn around, and have to go past the Dunks to get there from any direction.
I have it on good authority - overnights at the Dunks is cop central all night.
