Clutching pearls over a beer garden

I've had a beer in the Boston Common beer garden and the world didn't end
And we had a pop up beer garden in multiple locations last year in Roxbury including in Franklin Park
Why are NIMBYs against nice things?

The Trillium Garden on the Common and the Emerson College Uncommon Stage can easily be disassembled if Emerson College or Trillium Brewing ever tire of it and leave minimal, easily repairable damage to the Boston Common @TBL.
White Stadium being demolished and 145 trees cut down will result in a hole in the ground and a whole lot of tree stumps if something happens with the Boston Unity Soccer Partners and the BOS Nation Football Club. You really can't compare the two sites.
A Stain on The Wu Administration

Disregarding whatever cynical, disingenious opposition points that Josh Kraft will try to gin up to gain some kind of toehold in his mayoral challenge, Wu's ramrodding of this project - and her 'oh whatever' response to the cost increases - has been a low point.
Perfect encapsulation of Boston

This project is a perfect encapsulation, right down to John Costello’s “reverse discrimination!” tears below, of Boston intransigence. As is Streets and Squares.
The loudest voices and the default is to leave the burnt-out, dilapidated BPS White Stadium rather than to fix it for BPS students and the community. To leave restrictive zoning rather than update the zoning to allow housing development and relieve the skyrocketing cost of housing.
Then cowardly leaders like Menino and Walsh and Flynn quickly capitulate.
So yes, Wu is pushing hard, only giving opponents two years to air their gripes and fight this, rather than the forever that they’ve had to date. Because — and how would we know this, since nothing ever gets done — that’s how this is going to get done.
(Bonus points to newly-arrived Josh Kraft whose platform is “against whatever she’s for.”)

Slave to the Womyns' Cause.
If White Stadium was being rebuilt using taxpayer funds for a men's soccer team you would have lost your mind.
Stick your reverse discrimination thing up your hole.
But the trees....

I got some of the tree defenders email with the alarmist BS about 145 trees being taken out. If you've been paying attention, you know that includes dead trees and diseased trees. And fails to mention new trees being planted, like 60+.
I can't trust people who can't argue honestly. If you expect me to come down on your side of the debate, you need to get your thumb off the scale.
Have Fun City of Boston Taxpayers

Have Fun.
Why did your rent go up? Well, your rent went up because someone decided to override a lot of very basic fiscal concerns and turn over public space to a few millionaires so people could kick a ball.
That place to kick the ball ended up costing much more that what was put forward at first by the Mayor.
Therefore, your taxes went up, and your greedy landlord passed the non-savings onto you.
Are you not glad you elected a "Progressive"?
Just remember, the Breakers never broke over 4,500 a game. Ever. Despite being in Allston and Somerville, in places with parking and close enough parking.
What is past is prologue.
I hope the team does well, but it should have been private money on a private plot of land.
Would you give away public land for the Free Jacks or the Cannons to play? No way. The bias is amazing.
PS - Would Boston Athena FC a better name for the team?

I'm personally thrilled about the opportunity to have a pro sports team a short bike ride from my house, at an affordable price, with matches that won't last more than two hours. I support the right of folks who oppose the stadium to protest, I just wish there were ways those who support it could also have their voices heard. As others have pointed out, all too often these types of things are framed (in other outlets, not so much here) as City Officials vs. The Neighborhood, which is frankly not representative of reality.
Again, I support their right to voice their opposition, it just frustrates me when they exclude the voice of their neighbors that are generally in support. I'd wager there's a good number in both camps.
