Redgate and the New England Casket Co. have filed plans for a two-building, 220-unit apartment complex at 1141 Bennington St., where the company made caskets until an eight-alarm fire in 2019. Read more.

Last week, the BPDA issued a press release that it had approved 3,247 new housing units in Boston in 2022. Good news, right? Well, yeah, unless you make like Scott Van Voorhis and look at similar data for 2021, which showed 6,643 new approvals, and 2020, with 10,123.

Developer Ron Druker told the BPDA yesterday that he will file plans in February for nearly 600,000 square feet of life-sciences lab space in two buildings at 1033-1055 Washington St. that reaches to Shawmut Avenue in the South End. Read more.

Gary Martell, who tore down a 19th-century home and a 1960s-era pillbox of a bank branch on Centre Street to make way for a 21-unit condo building, today sued the BPDA for failing to schedule a vote on the project, which has now left West Roxbury's main shopping area with a large fenced-off pile of dirt. Boston University recently filed a 10-year, $1-billion "institutional master plan" that calls for a new research building, possibly up to 16 stories, and a new premium student dorm, along with an expansion of solar panels across the campus and a major rehab of the Warren Towers dorms on Commonwealth Avenue. City Realty of Brookline has proposed replacing a rental-car parking lot with a five-story, 52-unit apartment building at 13 Norwood St., between the Red Line/commuter-rail tracks and the Morrissey Boulevard building that houses Super Cuts and where Boston Market used to be. Read more.

A Rhode Island developer has filed plans for a five-story, 41-unit condo building at Maverick and Cottage streets, next to the McKay School, in East Boston. Read more.

The Davis Companies have filed plans with the BPDA to replace the old Boston Skating Club and a low-rise hotel on Soldiers Field Road in Allston with a four-building complex that would include 435 apartments in an 18-story tower, 93 condos, a 195-bed hotel, a 200-person entertainment hall and retail space. Developer Klaus Kimel has filed plans for a six-story, 40-unit, $11.3-million apartment building with three storefronts on Warren and Taber streets - down the block from the six-story building he's building at Taber and Harrison Avenue. Read more.
