If your gay there is a good
If your gay there is a good chance that many of your friends are gay as well. It also makes sense that if your an athlete then many of your friends may be athletes as well. Considering that these are gay athletes I would imagine that on average any number of them will have many gay athlete friends or be friends with people who go to gay athletic events.

Honest - I've never heard of them before.
Is entry limited to gay athletes? If so, how do they prove their gayness?
It seems to me - just being a miserable contrarian prick here - that if somebody came up with something called The Straight Games (or anything else with such an obvious biased qualifier) that a whole bunch of folks not included under the banner of the qualifier would be royally pissed - and perhaps rightly so.
I'm just saying. I don't give a damn if there are Gay Games, Straight Games, Celibate Games, Eunuch Games, or anything else. But, isn't it a bit of those who have been discriminated against doing just that?
And, seriously, how do they prove their gayness (if that's a qualifier for entry?)

According to Wikipedia anyone regardless of orientation can participate and it was created in 1982. It sounds like they created it as a venue where gay athletes can participate in activities without being discriminated against and anyone else who wants to participate can.

... the gay games were started to promote understanding and acceptance of gays and lesbians, through participation in organized sports. but the emphasis is on inclusion for all people, regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, etc.

Think about the talented athlete who is gay. In the macho world of sports, some people do not want to be associated with gay.

Diffent Music?
I mean, for one thing they get to break away from the rigidly straight music played at most sporting events. Straight anthems like Queen's "We Will Rock You" and the Village People's "YMCA".

I have a lot of sympathy for what you are saying, even tend toward agreement. But I think the idea in part is that the "Olympics" are in fact, the "Straight Olympics." Not too accurate today, but 30 years ago, probably not far off the mark.
Now, to spin things in a different direction, do you have a similar objection to the Special Olympics?

But at Beijing 2008 there were only nine openly gay (and one openly bi) women Olympians, and one man (Matthew Mitcham, who took the gold in men's 10m platform diving). This out of over 10,000 athletes participating. It's clear that the majority of LGBT Olympians have chosen to remain publicly closeted, whatever their reasons.
Boston has a very active roster of gay sports teams and clubs, and of course is a great sports town in general, so someday, no doubt, we'll have the honor of hosting the international Gay Games competition.
No, it's still the case
Can you name any heterosexual athletes who might be role models for young heterosexuals? I can name probably at least a couple per sport.
Can you name any GLBT athletes? I can name four, and I consider myself someone who actively seeks out diverse high-achievers who might be role models for young people I work with.
I think most GLBT athletes, especially males, can tell you how hostile the sports world is. It's still far from accepting.
