The old Schlitz is back with a vengeance
By adamg on Wed, 10/21/2009 - 10:51am
Jon Chesto reports Pabst has stopped selling the yellow water it called Schlitz in the Boston area and is bringing back the 1960s Schlitz formula that put hair on your daddy's arms. First delivery of the new old brew is 4 p.m. at the the Eire Pub in Dorchester.

Schlitz
Wait a minute....I was always told that it was the Guinness that made me resemble Fozzy! Wocka, Wocka!
Somewhere deep the Hipster
Somewhere deep the Hipster Central Command the leadership is attempting to decide if it's time to move past PBR and behold the new glory of Schlitz.
And what will come after Schlitz?
Blatz? Carling Black Label? Old Milwaukee? Stroh's? Falstaff?

Haffenreffer?
Krueger Ale?
Croft Ale?
Pickwick Ale?
All products of Narragansett. ;-) I think the Pickwick brewery was in JP.
Years ago, I was really surprised to see Pickwick Ale at the Sevens.
I'd rather drink some
I'd rather drink some Schmitt's.
Haffenreffer was in Jamaica
Haffenreffer was in Jamaica Plain - where Sam Adams is now. They made Pickwick Ale there until they closed. The brand was then produced in Rhode Island, probably by Narragansett. One of the Haffenreffer sons worked for them.

Well, it can't be worse than the old (post-70's) schlitz!
Have a 'Gansett
Given a choice, go with a Narragansett, the largest selling beer in New England at one time. Revived this summer, it was originally brewed in New England.
Schlitz has a funny history in NE. It was nothing, then in the early 70's it took off for no reason at all and was right up there with Bud. Then, all of a sudden (late 70s???), you couldn't find a can of it. It's like fashion. ;-)
And if they're out of 'Gansett ...
Tough Schlitz!
Schaeffer. is the. one beer to have. when you're ...
Main problem: They used to be the Yankees beer.
Though we did have Schaeffer Stadium

I still sing the Schaeffer song to myself occasionally. Great tune.
One 'f' in Schaefer
not two. And yeah, the old Foxboro Stadium was called Schaefer for a few years.

I stand corrected. I went to games at the old stadium. In fact, I played in the band that sat in the corner of the end zone.
I believe it's Schlitz
I believe it's Schlitz that's used as a case study in advertising classes. They were one of the major brands in the country, but advertising wasn't able to increase their market share. So some genius decided that advertising "didn't work," and cut the entire ad budget. As a result, customers stopped getting reinforced in their choice, so they quit drinking Schlitz. Once they lost market share, advertising couldn't get it back.
Lesson - big brands don't advertise to get business, they advertise to keep business.

as a native Wisconsinite who lives in Dot and has been wondering when his next trip back to Madison will be so he could get some new-old Schlitz...
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!
