Thanksgiving? What's that?

Scanning FM in the car just now, I heard Bing Crosby crooning a Christmas song. Yes, Oldies 103.3 has gone into all-Christmas mode just in time for Thanksgiving. Lin Dolin reports 105.7 thinks it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, too.

Let's all give a big hearty golf clap to WODS for its amazing self-restraint: Last year, they started in on this stuff on Nov. 6.

Grr. Boston.com has a photo essay on the installation of a Christmas tree at Quincy Market, to be officially dedicated next Saturday, 11/21.

To which I say: THANKSGIVING COMES FIRST!!!!!

We could all go down there and stage a protest. If you're all willing to pitch in for my bail, maybe I'll chop down the tree.

Send me the bail money up front, though, okay?

And, why, look! Here's the usual self-serving link!

Actually, Matthew Casey said it quite well the other day in Brockton, Medford, Melrose, and other places where his column appears.

Every year once Oldies 103 starts that Christmas music nonsense in the middle of Nov. I reset my button to something else until January.

Send them letters. If enough people tell them that they hate it, they might actually stop it.

(If nothing else, you'll be amused by the replies. A year ago, I sent an e-mail saying in no uncertain terms that I couldn't stand it and would never listen to them again - "them" being 105.7 - and I got back a reply bathed in red and green thanking me for listening and giving me the details of their upcoming - on November 4th or 5th - station Christmas party.)

I sent an e-mail to 103.3 and got a reply saying that they had received 500 e-mails & 300 calls in favor of starting Christmas music now. So they did.

I am clearly in the minority with all of you Scrooges! I think it's very festive, and look forward to the holiday onslaught every year. ESPECIALLY this year because I'll be in Vietnam for Christmas. It's like holiday cramming for me.

I always do my Christmas shopping early and I love hearing the holiday tunes in the shops. Earlier the better.

My very favorite is Vince Vance & the Valiants "All I Want for Christmas is You."

...because it helps fight the early dark evenings. Otherwise,
"Thanksgiving comes first". (Even though I am perfectly willing to hum Christmas music _to myself_ all year round).

WGBH's celtic show on saturdays started flogging the Christmas
dog with their Celtic Christmas sales about the same time that
BJ's put out dueling Halloween/Xmas displays, September 30th.

This listener's response: CLICK!

Some day there's going to be a 7th game of a World Series in that new Minnesota Twins open-air stadium, which does not have a retractable roof. And it will be in November. Fun times!
