Worst regular-season loss by the Pats since the season opener in '03. Bad coaching decision in the 4th, probably a reflection of the defense's 4th Q. performance making him trust the O on 4th and 2 over the D's ability to hold off Indy from the 30. That said, Faulk probably gets that call at home.

and the fumble on the touchdown run and the interception on the touchdown pass are why the Pats needed that call so the Pats are to blame for this loss, not the 4th down call by the coach.

in Indy too. I think Faulk made the catch, despite the single bounce in the hands, past the 1st-down line. It was a bad call, a bad spot...
to hear people describe it, he juggled the ball around like a circus clown for a while.

The real harbinger of doom was the Maroney fumble in the endzone. That's when I said to myself, uh oh, this is not good. The Pats need to draft a quality running back. Maroney just isn't up to it.
The Belichick call to go for it on 4th down was an arrogant, bonehead decision. He looked shaken during the press conference, and with good reason.
Because he remains one of the best coaches in the league with an excellent team, they could recover from this and make a strong playoff run. Any team with Brady and Moss has a chance.

However, Maroney's blunder was inexcusable, and it's made more egregious by repeated plays earlier in the game where, as usual, he had SPACE in front of him and stopped, moved laterally rather than forward, and ended up with a 2-yard gain. Compare to Faulk, obviously, and it's really maddening.

That describes Maroney all too painfully. He's got raw talent up the wazoo, but he stops and hesitates in slo-mo, and goes east-west when he should be plowing forward.
If Brady throws an INT in the red zone, he'll make up for it with a bunch of TD passes. But for Maroney, if he fumbles going into the end zone when he could've cemented a huge win, he's not going to make up for it in other ways.
Aside from Corey Dillon's excellent Super Bowl season, the Pats have managed to score a lot of points with average backs.

That was just nuts. Bad in so many ways. Idiotic call. Horrible time and timeout management (which is why the Faulk spot couldn't be challeneged).
And if you don't trust your D to have any chance of stopping a 70yd TD drive (cuz why else would you make that call?), why didn't you then tell them that once the Colts got the ball to the 10 or so to let them score. Aside from BB's mental short-circuit, the next game-losing play was tackling Addai at the 1. Let him go in. Then you'd have about a minute to try to get the game-winning FG.
(As an added downer, it means that Wrong Borges, idiot Felger, and mama's boy Masserotti for once actually have something legit to trash BB for. Blind squirrels and all that...)

Pats converting a 4 and 1 is something like 60%, Manning going 70 in 2:00 against our D something like 70%.
Putting the ball into Mannings hands with our shitty corners, one a third string rookie, all of which just got gasses from being on the field the entire 4th quarter..... or putting it into MVP Brady's hands with weapons like Faulk, Moss, Welker and Ben.

Good call Bill, but you should have never let Brady waste those time outs. Not sure if we made that conversion, but a time out would have shown the spot to be horribly inaccurate by a yard and a half.

His 4th and 2 decision was the obvious pivotal moment in the game, the one having the largest direct impact on the outcome. However, just because the result of that play as well as the following two minutes didn't reflect underlying probabilities doesn't imply it was the wrong call. Disintegration of the Pats defense should draw the blame, along two redzone turnovers by the offense earlier in the game.

The same people that are bashing Belichick for using all four downs are the same people that have called him a genius every time it's worked in the past.
Everyone is giving Maroney a pass for fumbling on the 1 yard line in the 3rd quarter. If they had scored on that drive, they probably would have won.
