Boston Police tweet the officer was struck by a vehicle on Corey Street late this morning. Corey was closed at the VFW Parkway for an investigation. No word on his condition.
I tried going up Corey Street but they closed it off....lot of public safety vehicles....fire, police...and then there was a helicopter...i think it was fox 25 or something...
I drive by there every day. I would have thought that intersection very safe.
VFW traffic. Stop. Pregnant pause. Corey St traffic one direction. Stop. Pregnant pause. Corey St traffic in other direction. Repeat. Left turns are very limited.
Yeah, that's a bad intersection. Maybe they should put flashing lights around new stops signs for a year. And a blaring loudspeaker that yells at people who run the signs (although I suspect the neighbors wouldn't be thrilled).
I’m going to have to disagree because I really don't think the intersection of Corey and Weld is bad at all. It's an all-way (3-way) stop (which is a good thing because otherwise cars would probably fly up and down Corey with nothing stopping them between VFW and Centre). I’ve never seen anyone “fly through” that intersection and I’ve never seen anything close to an accident. [Note: I’ve only lived in the area for 2 years, but I go by that intersection pretty often. Also, I thought there were already stop signs when I moved here 2 years ago, but I could be wrong].
My uneducated guess is that the driver of the car involved in this accident was expecting the officer on the motorcycle to stop since she didn’t realize it was a funeral procession. And even though she “was cited for failure to stop at a stop sign and failure to yield for an emergency vehicle” [link: http://www.bostonherald.com/news/regional/view.bg?... that could just mean she didn’t come to a complete stop (I would say most cars [especially on Corey] don’t come to a complete stop).
I’m actually surprised more accidents don’t occur around funeral processions.

Channel 4 reports a driver basically turned right in front of him and "the impact threw the cop over the woman's car."
