First orange alert of this young French Toast season
By adamg on Fri, 12/18/2009 - 2:20pm
UPDATE: Matt Noyes reports a BLIZZARD WATCH has just been declared for the South Shore. The South Shore? That's like, right next to Boston!
Earlier, the forecasts were calling for a ton of snow on the Cape and in Rhode Island and, really, who can get all that worked up about that? But now Todd Gutner at Channel 4 is calling for 6-12 inches in Boston itself. It's Orange Alert time, people! Are you sure you have enough milk, eggs and bread to last you through an extended storm? Better go check.

I know we have enough
I know we have enough bourbon. I'm all set.
I agree with Jenny
If by "milk, eggs and bread", you mean "Irish cream, eggnog and beer", then we're all set.
Bourbon flip, then?
You need an egg and some milk or cream for that ...
I think yellow alert might be more appropriate
...as they don't seem to know exactly where the storm is headed, even at this point. And six to 12 inches, how bad can that be? :) Of course I say this as I just went through the checklist in my head -- dozen eggs, milk, check; make mental note to pick up fresh bread Saturday...
Why orange
It's an index of how much you should panic, and you can tell that for the past couple of days, the local weatherpeople have been hoping, hoping, oh, God, hoping, that this'll be a big store and now I'm all itchy and panicky.
Then again, I may be easily panicked.
yes,
and you apparently have psoriasis as well , itchy!
BLIZZARD WATCH
That's exactly how Matt Noyes just put it. OK, for the South Shore, but, hey, I'm just a couple towns over from the South Shore (Hyde Park to Milton to Quincy)!

Thundersnow!
Pete Bouchard can't wait. What about thundercats?
Snarf!
Snarf!
oh crap
I'm supposed to be flying into Logan late Sunday night.
Sorry, just had to engage in anticipatory whining.....
Oy
Here's hoping the snow is done by then and there aren't too many residual backups.
Delays
So this sucker was scheduled to fly to Europe right when a storm hit. Don't call a taxi, they're clearly unable to dive in snow. If you get to the airport, be prepared to wait.
at least you aren't doing
at least you aren't doing logan->DC, two flights cancelled today, booked for tomorrow, but can almost guarantee that ain't going to work out.
National Weather Service just issued a winter storm watch
for the Boston area. Projected NWS storm totals are now 6 -12 inches, same as Channel 4 predicted earlier. So, IMO, the orange alert appears justified.
I stand corrected...
...reaching with a trembling hand to push the panic button...NOW!
Can I get French Toast texted to me
The Alert that is.
Funny you should ask
Somebody's building a French Toast Twitter feed (off this stunningly sophisticated XML data file). If nothing else, you could get that, I think. I'll keep you posted.
Young French Toast Season
I'm enjoying the phrase "Young French Toast Season".
It sounds like one of those wine magazines describing
a new vintage:
"This mid-December 2009 entry has the features
of a real winner. Large, full flavors of brown-shelled
eggs combined with snow-white milk and a topping
of pure maple flavor with hints of cinnamon combine
to form an irresistible medley. The bread base for this
construction absorbs in a modest yet straightforward fashion.
Perfect for minimum forecasts of 6 inches and the good possibility
of additional accumulation."
storm? Ain't no storm.
I make it simple for ya; I don't see Shelby Scott, there ain't no storm. Period.
I'm thinking of you all from
I'm thinking of you all from hot & humid hanoi. I'll eat some pho in place of french toast. Can someone go shovel out my car? :)
I sense a movie out of this...
So we can expect "Blizzardy With A Chance Of French Toast"?
I just happen to be in LA
I just happen to be in LA where it will be 77 today. Sorry folks. BUT, use Panettone instead of regular bread, it is fantastic and gets your daily dose of fruit and veggies in the mix.
