WBUR reports that U.S. Rep. Michael Capuano showed the U.S. embassy in Katmandu the stupidity of its ways and that it will issue a visa for Surendra Dangol's nine-year-old daughter after all.
Dangol, here legally, had been saving money to bring his wife and daughter here when he was murdered at a Tedeschi shop on Centre Street in Jamaica Plain Dec. 26. The embassy had initially refused to issue the girl a visa because it was afraid she and her mother would come here and then not leave.

When Mike gets his dander up, watch out. Well done, Rep. Capuano.

This is not the first time I've seen a senator et al have to step in regarding visa questions. I suppose the far-off katmandu embassy could be excused for assuming that Boston doesn't care about visitors murdered in our mist? I my opinion, that would be a big mistake.
Capuano is one of the good ones

I am going to have to write him a thank you letter. When this news about not letting her in was posted yesterday in the comments here, it really pushed my buttons the wrong way.

Why were they afraid the mother and daughter wouldn't leave? Gee, let's stick around in a violent country that claimed our loved one? Alternately, so what if they stay, after what they have been through?

IMHO, Surendra Dangol purchased their visa waivers with his blood a few days ago in JP. If they happen to overstay, I. Don't. Care.
This is why I like Mike Capuano

and wish he could be our next Senator. At least we get to keep him in the House.
Thank you, Congressman

This story does bring pause to wonder.
Did no one at the consulate see "attend funeral of father and husband" on the application or ask why a visa was being requested during the interview? Such a tragedy should have been dealt with honorably without the intervention of a Congressman.
Thank you Mike for bringing some official expression of dignity to the family.
