The cops are just pissed because this means less free passes to their friends. I love seeing a bunch of state workers yell at each about who abuses the law more.

Ill be the first to admit
that troopers can be aholes, especially airport ones, but we only have one side of the story here. Im also thinking of places to secure in airports or police stations in general. A placard that does not belong to a trooper in a van with out of state plates has to be checked out and checked twice. Maybe the trooper didnt get the list, maybe the trooper never heard of the list. Should he just let some guy park a van somewhere at an airport simply because he has a 'placard'?
And that guy who makes 217K a year doesn't pay anyone or anything. We (the taxpayers) pay them.
And we still don't know what the guy said to the trooper right off the bat do we? Maybe he refused to identify himself, Maybe he used profanity like his boss likes to do.
In the end who cares. a-holes will be a-holes

The special snowflake with the 'parking pass' needs to remember that the world does not revolve around him and his perceived special privileges and sense of entitlement. The trooper was performing his duties in order to keep the public at Logan safe.

Pete, you were right on until, until....you made an all-too-common mistake. I don't mean to call you (personally) out on it, but it's something that I see a lot on UH, in the MSM, and lots of other places, but I haven't until now had a chance to remark on it.
Taxpayers like you and do not pay for the troopers at the airport. The troopers at the airport are paid for by Massport. Massport is (ready, everyone?) *not* a state agency, and is *not* funded by state tax dollars (a shocker, but something we should all be happy about!). Massport's revenue comes from the rent and other charges to the airlines, rent and fees charged to concessionaires at airport, parking fees and other things, but *not* state taxes.
How many people have ever thought about why Logan Airport is the nicest transportation facility in the Commonwealth? Don't because I'll save you the trouble: it is so because it doesn't have to go hat-in-hand to the bungling legislature for funding. Imagine, once upon a time (actually, in the 50s) we had a legislature that was prescient enough to realize that building and running something hugely complicated and hugely expensive facility, like an international airport, was far too important and complex to be left to the whim of a state agency subject to appropriation and the day to day control of the state. If the decision to create Massport as an independent authority had not been taken, all of Logan would probably look like one giant Government Center station by the sea (or at least like the worst part of the current airport -the area formerly known as Terminal D).
So the $217K guy does pay the trooper, since it comes out of the portion of the Massport budget he oversees.
Other than that minor issue, I thought your comment was a good and sensible one.

So, I'm a business owner in Boston for whom airline travel (all of it either starting or ending at BOS) was the second largest item of expenditure last year after staff wages. We have a choice of airlines, but we don't *choose* to fly out of Logan based on how "nice" the facilities supposedly are, or based on politeness of the staff - we use it because it's by far the most convenient airport, and the only one that's readily accessible by public transportation. (And yes, we do use Amtrak sometimes as an alternative.)
So, with some fraction of all my air fare expenditures contributing to that $217K salary for the foul-mouthed guy, do you think he'll offer me a free parking pass as well? Or should I just speak nicely with the troopers whose salaries are also ultimately paid for by the airport users? Answers on a postcard to the seven member Massport board, all of them appointed by the Governor (although according to isaacg that doesn't mean it's a state agency).

so Ill say the $7,853 that I've spent in my life flying out of Logan airport could have been a little less if we cut down on that waste?
And Im not sure that guy has a choice in which "security" he can hire, fire, use or not use when it comes to the FAA.
