Greg Reibman reports the Walnut Street parking lot at amazing Newton North High School was shut down - and a state police bomb robot (and the mayor) brought in - after the discovery of several potential bombs hanging on a fence. They turned out to be backpacks advertising some Web site - with fake money attached:
Police are comparing today's bomb scare to the promotional gimmick which shut down much of Boston, Cambridge and Somerville in January.
A parent reports the school was not evacuated.

B4class.com
Did a little googling on this ... and here's a message from the founder. Her name is Sofia Loginova, and she's a 17-year-old senior at Quincy High School, who immigrated here from Russia in 1999.
And isn't that sweet?
Let me be the first to say b4class.com sucks.
Why? Surely, somebody from Quincy would understand why leaving large-ish unattended bags in the Boston area would not be the smartest marketing move - unless the goal is to get your name out regardless of the consequences. If that's the case, then maybe, yeah, Sofia Longinova really is "a shrewd young entrepreneur who came to Boston in 1999 from Russia [and] a savvy Quincy High senior." If it turns out she's responsible for the stunt, though, I sure hope she put aside enough money to pay whatever it cost Newton to respond.
Sofia says "I didn't do this"
Web site founder denies involvement in prank
She was handing out these backpacks at Faneuil Hall. Could it be that a few of the recipients got together to stage this prank, unbknownst to her?
Who calls the bomb squad in
Who calls the bomb squad in these situations? Is it the location that makes things look dangerous?
I just don't get it, personally I wouldn't have payed the bags any attention.
And why would someone hang a bomb on a metal fence?
The Channel 5 report says workers saw the bags and called police. Why didn't they just go over an look at the bags, read the logo and take a peak inside?
Uh...
If the workers thought that the bags could have been something dangerous, why in the world would they go over and take a peek inside? If you thought something might be a bomb, are you going to go over and stick your FACE inside of it?
Lest we forget ..
Bombers used abandoned back packs to blow up trains in Spain, and "unattended luggage" has long been used as a bombing mechanism for modes of transport.
Far more suspect and "installation" than a mooninite - and something you certainly want to call in and have the professionals handle!
Hmmmm ... Coincidence?
B4CLASS.COM was registered last year to a guy in Newton who has an email address of a promotional company. Hmmmm...
And the registration address is just a mile northeast of Newton North High School.

Looking at the pictures I
Looking at the pictures I don't see how those sacks hanging on a fence "looked" dangerous in any way. They were not even place against a building, they were just hanging there with the name of the site printed on them.
The fact that this happened at a school makes it even more surprising to me. Maybe the Madrid Bombers, and probably plenty of suicide bombers have used all sorts of bags to transport explosive, but it doesn't mean every bag in every situation is suspicious.
I once forgot my duffle bag outside by the door of my school gym after a long game. I went back in the morning and it was waiting for me in the athletics offices. And yes it was after Columbine or whatever tragedy people use as an excuse to always assume the worst. All I'm saying is that kids forget/leave things at school all of the time.
