How you gonna keep 'em down on the farm when the farm is in Allston?

A Harvard student group proposes using some of Harvard's vast real-estate holdings in Allston for a farm.

Harry Mattison explains why this is one of the best ideas that I have seen from Harvard Square in quite a while.

Given Allston's past (it's named for an artist who used to go down to the Brighton stockyards to paint), might make sense to ensure at least one cow is on hand.

Currently, Boston's only working farm is Allandale Farm on the Brookline/JP line.

Barnies for real! Wasn't that something some Slummuhvuh townies were calling people hanging around in Harvard Square in the mid-80s?

It had something to do with their conception of looking like one just came from a barnyard, although it was horrendously misinformed. I ain't never seen a mohawk on a pig and they had clearly never seen a barnyard (Hilltop Saugus does not count!).

Fantastic idea.

By the way, while Allandale is Boston's only for-profit farm, there are a number of nonprofits.
