Oh, Canada: On fire again
By adamg on Sun, 08/08/2010 - 12:29am
From Winthrop to Salem to Roslindale, people on Twitter are reporting the smell of smoke. As I type this, the air on Grew Hill on the Roslindale/Hyde Park line smells like something's burning somewhere. But this time, the fires are way farther away than Quebec: We could be breathing in the remains of fires in Saskatchewan, Manitoba and the Northwest Territories, as shown on this NOAA map:
Hat tip to Matthew Soleyn for the link to the map.

Or...
Or, their neighbors decided to break out the grills and fire pits on such a great day.
At 10 pm?
Don't think so! I'm just glad I'm not the only one who smells it!
Midnight grilling?
That's about when I was smelling it outside. Also, didn't smell at all like barbecue or charcoal (was also faint, hardly overpowering).
Aha
I smelled it for a while driving through Marlborough last evening, but nothing for the remainder of the night. Saw the tweets last night and almost commented about the fires in Russia, but that seemed way too far away. With all the fires in the northern hemisphere, I guess we can expect some ruddy sunsets.
