DA: Street sweeper operator attacked with hammer, football
Two North Shore men are charged with blocking a street sweeper with their Escalade on Sudbury Street near Surface Road early this morning, then getting out and hitting the driver with a hammer and throwing a football at his face.
Piero Procopio, 26, of Lynn, and Craig Strasnick, 23, of Nahant, were arraigned this morning in Boston Municipal Court this morning, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office, which says that when police stopped their SUV nearby, they found a hammer in the driver's side door and a football under a jacket on the floor. Procopio is charged with hitting the sweeper operator in the arm and chest with a hammer; Strasnick with throwing the football. Their alleged victim later went to a local hospital for treatment of cuts and bruises.
According to the DA's office, Procopio's bail was set at $2,500; Strasnick's at $1,000.
