It's perilous to rely on drunks to name where they last drank
It's perilous, sans any other proof, for the ABCC to rely on a just convicted drunk driver to tell the truth on where he had his last drink before being arrested. "A friend's house" has to be among the top but not necessarily truthful answers as folks try to avoid incriminating their favorite bar. OTOH, a hardcore drunk will often seek revenge by naming the last establishment he was banned from. Even those who are truthful are not asked what effort was made to prevent them from driving, e.g calling a cab, calling police, taking the keys etc. Also interesting that relatively huge venues, like the TD Garden, Fenway, Foxboro, Tweeter Center, etc. seem to have escaped the list.
Of course big venues weren't named...
...they buy ad space! When was the last time you saw an ad for the Golden Banana or Thirsty Whale in the Globe?
overserve
these must be honest bars if you can get drunk in them. most hard core drinkers bring their oun stuff. and if the bartender sees that your tipsy. they serve you watered down booze or rotgut booze. and pocket the difference. vo becomes seagram 7. These people were already drunk before they come into the bar with thier little stash. At $10 $12 a drink and more.Who could afford this. you drop $50 for 4 drinks of watered or iced down booze and the bar takes the fall. Next time you go in a bar see how many empties you see in the bathrooms.
The Golden Banana? Really??
Solid point from the blogger... I can't help but wonder how long WBZ had this story in the can for if they're citing examples from New Year's Eve! I'm also pretty surprised there were 18 people admitting they went to the Golden Banana! Ha.
I guess they just needed SOME news for today; that whole "pat-down in protest" story's getting rather tired.
I don't understand why the
I don't understand why the article implies you have to be falling over drunk to be unable to drive. For years we've been told that if you have more than one or two drinks, you shouldn't be driving.
