Wikileaks has had more scoops in its short life than The Boston Globe in 30 years
Julian Assange is just Woodward and Bernstein by another name. All these people who are supporting what the US Government is doing to him and Wikileaks need to ask themselves if they would like to have had Watergate swept under the rug. Watergate started as a bunch of dirty tricks on the campaign trail and snowballed from there." - Mafdet
Other apt comparisons might include Julian Assange to the publisher of the New York Times, who published the Pentagon Papers during the Vietnam war.
Daniel Ellsburg was the leaker of the Pentagon Papers, a man who acted on conscience when he xeroxed 70,000 pages at the Pentagon and turned them over to the NYT. The papers demonstrated to the American people their government was lying to them about the Vietnam war. The Pentagon papers gave the public the truth, and truth permitted the public form an informed opinion about the policy being executed in their name.
The Daniel Ellsburg equivalent today is Scooter Libby who leaked the identity covert CIA agent Valeria Plame or Pfc Bradley Manning, who has been arrested and charged with the unauthorized use and disclosure of U.S. classified information. While it may or may not be a valid defense, Bradley Manning was acting on his conscience when he leaked the information to Wikileaks as you will see in the following documentary, "WikiRebels" made by Sweden’s public service television, SVT. SVT is broadcasting this documentary chronicling the history of WikiLeaks, after having followed them for some six months.

Assange should b castrated for having sex with a broken condom and and shot for treason with no blindfold as a message to other traitors. As for calling him a terrorist, I don't know how any sane person can make that claim, he never threatened violence or caused violence in the US or anywhere else.

Interesting how the only politician vocally defending Wikileaks is a Republican. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nxPB9yy7IJ4
Kudos to Ron Paul but then
Kudos to Ron Paul but then there are more than a few shrill, unreasonable and outrageous voices on the right calling for Assange to be tried for treason (he's not an American citizen) or to be shot on site (without a charge or trial or any legal foundation) or to be charged as a spy (what he does is no different than the New York Times.)
It's a sad state of affairs when the hyperbolic and under informed politicians and pundits drown out the reasoned voices in a debate of significant importance to what 1st Amendment rights will mean in the United States going forward.
It look like Holder wants to leverage the "Assange is a spy" charge (without evidence) so that he can use PATRIOT ACT provisions on him and us/
How about
they do any and all of these things to Dick Cheney first, instead. Plenty of evidence already in the public domain.
George Bush cancels Swiss visit after complaints over torture
I'm convinced that without Cheney, Bush would not have instituted the torture of thousands and torture deaths of hundreds but the only way we'll know is if there's a trial.
